Description
My note is a replica of the last: Dark, brooding. Lovely élévage, well-developed pre-bottling. Yes, it’s still young, of course. Where so many Barbara’s are raw at this point there is a sense of togetherness. It’s a pure expression of the grape without interference from oak.
It looks to have spent reasonable time on skins, the extraction and flavour development adding the earthy, skin contact/maceration character, and quality tannin wrapping quality fruit of depth and length.
There is something about the mouthfeel that Olek gets in his wines that is alive. Full of energy with dark fruits and a hit of baking spice. A triumph!
Barbera from forty year old vines in his Altavilla vineyard, high in the hills above the city of Alba. It spent eighteen days on the skins, before being pressed off to botti for a short élevage.
To have a wine phenologically ripe at an alcohol of only 13.5% alcohol shows just how well cared for the vines are!
