Burgundy
The southernmost region of Burgundy is planted just to the south of the Mâcon. From an ocean of Beaujolais Nouveau released just months after harvest, it climbs to a pinnacle with Cru Beaujolais that can rival the Pinot Noir of the Côte du Beaune & the Côte de Nuits in both complexity, longevity and drinking pleasure.
It’s no wonder we’ve seen a number of makers from these northern Burgundy regions come play in Beuajolais.
Like any region you’ll fine a spectrum of style dictated partly by the vineyard and the winemaking yielding anything from elegant, finessed wines to much bolder incarnations.
Wholebunch use during fermentation is a notable component of much of the making in Beaujolais.
There are 3 classification in Beaujolais.
1. Beaujolais – Generic Beaujolais. much of this goes into Beaujolais Nouveau.
2. Beaujolais Village – The mid-Tier split between a portion of Beaujolais Nouveau and more serious wine released the following year.
3. Beaujolais Cru – The best gear we like to play with.
There are 10 Cru’s.

Gamay Noir from Fleurie, Beaujolais
Perfumed, delicate, transparent, thirst quenching, mid to light weight. Delicious easy to devour. Nice flavour profile with a bit more earthiness coming through. Well developed and balanced. Excellent value.
Gamay Noir from Chiroubles, Beaujolais
Super soft and pliant. Silky caressing flow with excellent mid palate weight complimented by baking spices / darker plummy fruits. A little lick of florals & violets.
Gamay Noir from Morgon, Beaujolais
About Domaine des Marrans Domaine des Marrans is located in Fleurie, in the heart of the northernmost section of Beaujolais. Founded in 1970, the current proprietor is the young and talented Mathieu Mélinand, who joined the family domaine in 2008. With old vines and crystalline granite sites, Mathieu is growing some of the most pristine […]
Gamay Noir from Morgon, Beaujolais
This wine used to come to us simply as Morgon Vieilles Vignes without the name of the vineyard or lieu-dit (it is now labelled Morgon Les Délys Vignes plantées en 1926). It comes from a single hectare of 100-year-old vines located on the Morgon-Chiroubles border at the end of the Corcelette valley—a terroir historically known as Délys. The old, gnarled vines sit on a southeast-facing slope, planted at 10,000 vines per hectare. As always, this is likely to be Bouland’s most age-worthy w
Gamay Noir from Morgon, Beaujolais
Year after year Bouland has turned stunning, beautiful wines! Drawn from the Domaine’s Corcelette vines rooted in this lieu-dit’s rockier soils. The vines here are only a little younger than the centurion beasts that go in the Sable version of this wine. It’s a terroir that gives a slightly more structured Morgon than the Sable cuvée. To be honest, we have never really had a preference between the two since they were differentiated on the labels starting with the 2019 vintage: both wines
Gamay Noir from Morgon, Beaujolais
Named after Daniel Bouland’s daughter, Cuvée Mélanie is drawn from a small, steep, half-hectare plot on the slopes of Mont Brouilly. The 70-year-old vines are rooted on the area’s famous terres bleu (blue-tinted volcanic soils) within the lieu-dit of Tête Noire, directly above Château Thivin. The blue schist lends the wines of this Cru their unique mineral profile. Bouland’s 0.8-hectare parcel is planted at 12,000 vines per hectare. As with all of Bouland’s cuvées, this is a wine bo
Gamay Noir from Morgon, Beaujolais
Of the two Bellevue Cuvées, the Cailloux has better balance and energy with a touch less alcohol and a touch more acid. Excellent darker, earthier profile than the Chiroubles. Beautifully weighted, plump fruit with a spice layer and just a little playful stalk tannin grip keeping the palate lively and, with that fine line of acid, refreshing. Any excellent rendition and like the other 2023's more immediate approachability than previous vintages. Paul Kaan, WINE DECODED Nov 2024
Gamay Noir from Fleurie, Beaujolais
Fresh vibrant juicy fruit, juicy acid, beetroot on cherry. Delightful, elegant, savoury playful, could get cerebral if you want but don’t have to. 35-90 year old vine. Energy, lovely fine texture, with veil of ever so slightly dusty tannins. Heart shaped fruit tapering with delicacy into a long finish. Excellent contrast to the power of Morgon, the finess and elegance of Fleurie at play.
Gamay Noir from Moulin à Vent, Beaujolais
“The 2019 Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes is attractive, bursting with aromas of cherries, sweet berry fruit, rose petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and lively, it's deep and layered, framed by powdery tannins and bright acids. This has turned out well.”William Kelly, The Wine Advocate
Gamay Noir from Morgon, Beaujolais
I thought Bouland, Thivin & Foillard were good! Note on the 2019: Yes! This is superb. Right out of the gate I'm blown away. Taken far too long to get these on the list. An exceptional élévage has brought this wine to a place of great harmony, poise, and balance. Not the gangly teenager you see in many a young Beaujolais. This is a complete wine with impressive finesse over an underlying power. Dark cherry and spice, licorice and blood orange. Impressive depth and length, yet a sense of weight
Gamay Noir from Moulin à Vent, Beaujolais
“The 2019 Moulin-à-Vent Les Rouchaux wafts from the glass with notes of dark berry fruit, sweet spices, peonies and raw cocoa, delicately patinated by its élevage in used wood. Medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with fine concentration, powdery tannins and a spicy finish, it's seamless and complete.”William Kelly, The Wine Advocate
Gamay Noir from Morgon, Beaujolais
I thought Bouland, Thivin & Foillard were good! Judging by the not so 'standard' Côte du Py and the 'James' from 2018, this will be stunning. The cuvée Javernières is produced from a 0.5 hectares parcel with clay soils, it will charm you with its elegance, finesse. It makes for a fascinating comparison with the James, a blend of several of the domain greatest terroirs, that develops serious complexity with age. Burgaud's 2018 Morgon Côte du Py Javernières is showing beautifully, unfurli
