With each step up through the range, the oak sophistication increases. Whilst clearly present in the Ardanza, it is much more sophisticated texturally. The 2019 Ardanza has a fresh line of acid. It's tight and quite vertical. Just starting to resolve. It still needs time to build expression and generosity. Saline with blue fuits. Linear shape and flow with excellent transparency. It's be intriguing to sit on a bottle over a couple of days and see where it ended up.Paul Kaan, Wine Decoded May

The 2012 Viña Tondonia Reserva comes from a very dry year, with 25% less rain than the average (at the time), resulting in lower yields of very healthy grapes that delivered wines with nice balance between alcohol and polyphenols, making it very apt for the aging in barrel. It had a slightly longer élevage in barrel, six years. The wine is aromatic with a developed profile, spicy and tertiary (forest floor, a touch of brick dust and iodine), complex and nuanced. The palate is full and round, w

The 2013 Reserva Viña Tondonia is a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha and 10% Graciano and Mazuelo, grown in the calcareous soils of the Tondonia meander in Rioja Alta. Aged extensively in American oak, it offers restrained black fruit, wild herbs, balsamic hints and sweet spices with gentle cedar and vanilla notes. Medium-bodied with chalky grip and a layered, tertiary finish, this is a benchmark classic-refined, enduring and unmistakably Tondonia. Tasted May 2025 Drink 2025-2055

Palacios Remondo Propiedad Garnacha 2020

Red Blend | Spain, Alfaro

Complete liking this the shape, flow, development and harmony are impressive. Very complete super fine long tannins with personality. Excellent flavour profile with a little baking spice. Freshness and energy here, signing. Plush, fine and delicious.I was really taken by the 2020 Propiedad, a pale and bright ruby-colored wine with subtleness and elegance despite its 14.5% alcohol. The old vines are a majority of Garnacha and maybe 8% other varieties. The wine is floral, with notes of sto

The 2021 El Bardallo is produced with the grapes from the same plot as in previous years in the zone of San Vicente that names the wine; they believe this plot produces the wines in their cellar that have more finesse. Like the rest of the reds, it fermented with indigenous yeasts and part whole clusters and matured in 500- and 600-liter barrels in their underground cellar. This is serious and elegant, with ripe berry fruit and spice from the élevage, a full palate with pungent flavors, power a

Artuke ‘La Condenada’ Rioja Tinto 2021

Red Blend | Spain, Alavesa

Trying ‘La Conenada’s’ brother 'El Escolladero'  along with a few other wines from the Artuke range was enough to convince me to grab a couple of boxes.Well it's arrived, and I can see why it is one of the Artuke's two crown jewels! The palate has exceptional shape and flow, yes it is precise! The acid ~ tannin ~ fruit ~ alcohol complex sits in perfect harmony. As with the El Escolladero there is just a little edge of grip to the mouthfeel, again in a cleansing positive way. Opening

Red Blend | Spain, Alavesa

Trying 2021 ‘La Conenada’s’ brother 'El Escolladero'  along with a few other wines from the Artuke range was enough to convince me to grab a couple of boxes. I've not looked back. The 2022 'La Condenada is a little more tightly coiled with a chalky acid profile needing time to resolve. Excellent transparency through an elegant fruit profile of fine red fruits with sold depth and length. Opening in the glass beautifully, building mid-palate weight and length with a fantail finish. Tasting this in Apr 2024 it showed sophistication refinement of tannin, stunning flow and harmony. Deeply layered and delicious. A note differing to Guitiérrez' and perhaps a factor of being some 2 years older when tasted. Delicious. The 2018 Roda I is in line with the other 2018s, lower alcohol, grainier tannins and a little more earthy rusticity that to me translates into more character and less polished wines. This was a blend of 92% Tempranillo, 6% Graciano and 2% Garnacha from 30+-y

The single-vineyard red 2021 Camino de Ribas comes from a plot, La Cóncova, under the Toloño peak close to Rivas de Tereso, a hamlet from San Vicente de la Sonsierra, possibly the coolest zone, with a north-facing exposure, a place with shallow soils with sand, limestone and sandstone and full of aromatic herbs. It's a blend of 50% Tempranillo, 40% Garnacha and the rest Viura, Jaen, Garnacha Blanca, Palomino and other white varieties. It fermented with a long and soft vinification with some wh
