Disgorged in June 2020 with eight grams per liter dosage, the latest release of Philipponnat's NV Brut Royale Réserve is based on the 2016 vintage, with 27% reserve wines. Offering up aromas of peach, pear and plum mingled with apple blossom and sweet pastry, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and expressive, with a pillowy mousse and a generous core of fruit, underpinned by bright acids.William Kelly

Balanced, flowing & long. The Ultratradition has immediate generosity yet the tension needed to give it energy. Fun wine of complexity.Fine with a floral nose and red fruit / pink lady. The Meunier shines bright at 60%, with backbone and complexity from 30% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot. 40% of the blend is reserve wines, and it certainly shows in the mid-palate weight, line, and length. A nice bit of lees contact gives it a seamless flow. Lovely mousse and mouthfeel. Delicious fizz!

In its youth, March 2023, it needs a little warmth and air to coax out the fruit. Such a beautiful Rosé. If finding a good wine is hard, finding tasty Rosé Champagne is a true mission. There are so many tricked up hard angular wines. Fabrice has got it all going on here. Rosé made by allowing fruit skin contact rather than dosing a white wine with some Red really does appear to offer a much more refined result. Hanging to do a side by side with Pouillon's Meunier and Prévost's. To excellent makers two different styles! 100% Pinot Meunier from a site in Fesigny. My Note from the 2012:Like all of Pouillon's wines, this is superb. Fine, delicious, so together with incredible harmony. Not as Oxy as Prévost's, it still has an oxidative note. When I was making wine at Yarra Yering we used a Solera barrel of Chardonnay in the liqueur d'expedition for the fizz. The depth, length, and, complexity of this wine with those Oxy notes was a great foil to the richness in the base wines.Fascinating to see what happend to wines made of quality fruit when you age them for extended periods in wood.
