Grands Échezeaux. Close to this paradise, the appellation Village Vosne-Romanée and its Premiers Crus express the Pinot Noir grape at its heavenly best.

An overtly floral nose reflects notes of rose petal, lavender, acacia and violet along with nuances of red and black fruit, earth and a whiff of forest floor. "A much spicier if less earthy nose is more deeply pitched with its aromas of poached plum, exotic tea, black cherry and a whiff of sandalwood. The round, supple and surprisingly forward mid-palate of the medium-bodied flavors contrasts immediately with the very firm, markedly powerful and moderately austere finish. This too is excellent and while it's not a refined Echézeaux (examples from Les Rouges du Bas rarely are), it is not only imposing but offers fine development potential as well."

Domaine Bouchard Pere et Fils Grand Cru ‘Echezeaux’ 2019

This was one of the few wines in the line-up to display any appreciable reduction and in this case it's enough to mask the underlying fruit. The suave, round and highly seductive medium-bodied flavors possess a caressing texture yet there is good underlying power to the acceptably long and complex finale.
