"Lustrous mid ruby. Exciting aromatic cherry nose with hints of oatmeal. Great purity. Sappy, juicy cherry fruit and cracking tannins. Great length and aromatic build up on the finish."Walter Speller, Jancis

Barolo Cru Druca Fruit from the Vineyards of Luigi Oddero! Historically from the La Morra Specola Cru from 2020 the fruit is sourced from the Druca Cru in Barolo. Declassified Barolo! Not for quality, but, for the shorter ageing timeframe. BOOM! The rest of the fruit from this Cru goes into the Langhe Nebbiolo. Specola is now bottled as a Cru Barolo with some of the fruit going into the Classico. The shift in Cru was based on a desire to find fruit with softer tannin to handle 100% wholebunc

Barolo Cru Druca Fruit from the Vineyards of Luigi Oddero! Sourced from the Druca Cru in Barolo. Declassified Barolo! Not for quality, but, for the shorter ageing timeframe. BOOM! The shift in Cru back in 2020 was based on a desire to find fruit with softer tannin to handle 100% whole-bunch, an uncommon technique in Piedmont, though one on the rise. The Cru is near Novello's Ravera Cru. The site allows more hang time & the ripeness of tannins needed for 100% wholebunch ferment. Interest

You can't beat this value. The G.D. Vajra 2020 Barolo Albe is buttoned up with fresh primary fruit, and the wine does not have that hint of over-ripeness that is found across this vintage. The fruit is dark and savory, and there is a big mineral component to match, but the bouquet is nicely redolent of dark currant, plum, granite and a raspy dry note that brings crushed shale to mind. The tannins are quite impactful, and they give this wine extra runway for moderate bottle aging.Monica Larne

The 2019 Albe is looking good with loads of energy. There's a nice build in density and quality tannins that are layered and ripe with excellent weight. Darker fruits. It’s good to see this looking so vibrant, flowing and fun. Delicious. Baking spice, woody herb & lick of licorice very good. Full of energy. Great drinking. This is certainly one of the most popular and versatile wines made in Italy, and deservedly so. The well-priced G.D. Vajra 2019 Barolo Albe shows some ripe fruit

Excellent, Perfume, energy, lovely core of fruit, long & fine, dark & savoury with red fruit too. Layered with an excellent tannin profile, flow and shape. Delicious. Will undoubtedly build with age. Acid tannin complex is very good. Length of tannins is excellent. Firm in a good way and of quality, a little nutty. Exceptional value to be had here!Paul Kaan, Wine DecodedDo you have a favourite pair of jeans or a favourite dress that you keep in your closet for all occasions?

The hot tip for the Langhe Nebbiolo give it a year or two in bottle before you crack into it. It will be tightly wound when young and take that time to reveal itself. Looking forward to trying Canonica's.

If you were to consider the entire portfolio of wines made in the Barolo appellation, this wine always stands in its own little corner. Albe is a brand on its own, and it represents one of the most versatile, accessible and well-priced Baroli to emerge from the appellation. The G.D. Vajra 2016 Barolo Albe sets off on the right foot, offering forthcoming intensity with forest fruit, wild cherry, crushed stone and blue flowers. Winemaking is straightforward in stainless steel, and the wine finishe

The 2017 Barolo Coste di Rose is pretty, supple and inviting. Some of the tannins need to resolve, but this is a young Barolo after all. The Coste di Rose doesn't have the sensuality of the Albe or the pedigree of the Viole, but it nevertheless has so much to give. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, mint, crushed rocks and sage are some of the many notes that linger. I won't be surprised if the 2017 is even better than this note suggests once it softens a bit. Galloni

Coste di Rose is possibly the most approachable cru of Barolo at this stage, with roses and a floral-dominated nose, combined with marasca cherry and hints of licorice and mint. A very elegant and pleasurable structure that flows gracefully on the palate with a lingering and sapid finish. Nomen omen. Giuseppe Vaira
