Northern Rhône

François Villard

Excellent energy, textural, round mid-palate of lovely depth baking spice, hints of mandarin rind, a little pear, excellent shape and superb finish. Fresh green herby hint. Nice little cleansing grab at the back and then the fruit continues on. Layered. Fun vino. A superb Marsanne – Roussane! ... ⅔rds the price of Graillot's & arguably better. First white I've tried from François. Looks like he's got mad skills with both colours!

Stéphane Ogier ‘La Rosine’ Syrah 2019

Shiraz/Syrah | Rhône Valley, Collines Rhodaniennes

Stéphane makes wines of great energy and vibrancy, always on the fresher end of the spectrum. Here there is both power and finesse. La Rosine comes from a single plot just outside the southern boundary of the famous Côte-Rôtie appellation. The 2019 is much more together than the 2018 at the same stage.  Still a little puppy fat. This is generous out of the gate. The tannins silky and long match the fruit nicely. Decant in youth to get the most from this. A divine array of fruits, spices a

Florals, on red and blue fruits with a bit of spice sit delicately on framework of tannins with a nice bit of mid-palate grip. Weightless yet full of flavour. A graceful Syrah. It’s fun now, there is no doubt that time will be kind helping it relax and show more perceived generosity.

Alain Graillot Crozes-Hermitage Blanc 2018

White Blend | Crozes-Hermitage, France

The white of the Northern Rhone offer up just as much intrigue as the reds! Alain Graillot's 2018 white Crozes-Hermitage is a deliciously pulpy and layered white Rhone that we're more than glad to be able to offer once again. The wine is made from a blend of 80% Marsanne and 20% Roussanne, whole-bunch pressed and naturally fermented in 600-litre demi-muid. The fruit comes from a small 2.7-hectare plot on the deep alluvial soils of Pont-de-l'Isère. Maxime compensates the richness of fruit, in pa

Viognier is such a unique variety! The perfume intoxicating, the texture caressing! A single-vineyard offering from the Coteau de Chéry, one of the appellation’s most valued terroirs. The grapes from these 50yr old vines are fermented in stainless steel (one third) and barrique of which 25% is new oak. Building to show a step up in depth and length. A lick of cleverly used, integrated oak hiding behind the fruit will disappear completely with a little more time in bottle. The tannins show an edge more grip than the Premises in a good way. A bolder iteration with fruit driving the full length of the palate.
