The 2019 Bourgogne Rouge offers up aromas of sweet red berries and plums mingled with peonies and spices. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and textural, it's deep and complete, with lively acids and a penetrating finish. Bouley now gives his regional bottlings the same extended élevage as his grander appellations, and the result are compelling. William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

A cuvée that now sees two winters in barrel like the rest of the range, the 2020 Bourgogne Côte d’Or Rouge exhibits aromas of sweet berries, spices and vanilla pod, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and seamless palate that’s flesh and charming, with sweet tannins and succulent acids. The Volnay is a Violot-Guillemard staple – perfumed, violets and cherries, terrific complexity and elegance.

“Rich dense purple, the nose is a little more reticent than the Pommard, with darker fruit, ripe but balanced, and just a touch of liquorice. While quite backward at the moment, this should emerge very well.” Jasper Morris, 90-92 Points

A relatively high-toned and more elegant nose features notes of red currant, cherry, raspberry and a hint of lavender. The super-sleek, indeed almost lacy middle weight flavors display more minerality if less density before terminating in a lingering finish that tightens up noticeably on the dusty and mildly austere finale. There's a lot to like here. The expression of potential is already clear! Louis' Volnay 'les Brouillards' shows a build in structure over the Gevrey and Bougogne. It feels like a pleasant lick of oak is being soaked up nicely by wonderful fruits, adding a little layer of tannin. Savoury, dark flavours with a little spice a freshened with red fruits. There's a lot to like here. The expression of potential is already clear! A notably ripe and densely fruited nose flashes notes of both red and b

Domaine Jean-Marc et Thomas Bouley Volnay 2019

Pinot Noir | Volnay, Burgundy

Aromas of raspberries and plums mingled with hints of orange rind, sweet spices and forest floor introduce Bouley's 2019 Volnay Village, a medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless wine that's lively and penetrating, concluding with a long, saline finish. As I've written before, this cuvée blends the rich, clay soils of lieux-dits Poisots, Famines and Cros Martin with the thinner, whiter soils of Ez Blanches above the Clos de Chênes; but in 2019, the wine's tone is set by Ez Blanches, even if

“The 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Angles is sensual and charming, bursting from the glass with aromas of plums, raw cocoa, sweet spices and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, it's lively and textural, with a broad attack and a long, expansive finish.” William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 92 Points  JM 90-93

A wonderfully spicy nose offers up its aromas of both red and dark raspberry, violet and soft floral nuances. There is once again a lovely texture along with fine detail to the more refined middle weight flavors that deliver very good persistence on the youthfully austere and slightly grippy finale. 2030+ Allen Meadows, Burghound

“The 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Brouillards has turned out especially well. Opening in the glass with aromas of red berries and plums mingled with sweet soil tones, hints of raw cocoa and rose petals, it's  medium to full-bodied, velvety and seamless, with terrific concentration and beautifully refined tannins. Boillot observes, and I agree, that this site's tannins have become much more refined over the last five years.” William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 93 Points JM 91-93

A ripe, airy and cool mix consists mainly of red and dark raspberry, anise and an equally pretty mix of floral elements. There is both excellent volume and vibrancy to the sappy, powerful and muscular larger-scaled flavors that brim with minerality on the serious, long and built-to-age finale. Patience absolutely recommended. Allen Meadows, Burghound 90-93 Points ♥ Outstanding

Moderate wood and menthol can be found on the aromas of violet, red currant and plum. There is excellent density to the velvety and sappy textured flavors that manage to maintain very good precision on the overtly stony, powerful and youthfully austere finale. As is typical for this wine, it’s going to need every bit of a decade to reach its apogee. Drink 2031+ Allen Meadows, Burghound 91-93 Points ♥ Outstanding

Very ripe liqueur-like aromas of various black berries are nuanced by plenty of spice and floral elements. There is excellent underlying tension to the beautifully textured medium weight flavors that also brim with sappy dry extract and minerality, all wrapped in a bitter pit fruit finale that offers impressive persistence. This is definitely atypical but the intrinsic class of a fine Caillerets is still present. 2032+ Allen Meadows, Burghound

An exuberantly spicy and overtly floral nose is airy, cool and elegant. Unlike some of the other reds in the range with very low yields, the mouthfeel of the mediumbodied flavors reflects the expected density while remaining sophisticated, refined and classy on the beautifully persistent, mineral-driven and youthfully austere finale. This is terrific and should age effortlessly. 2033+ Sweet spot Outstanding ♥ Allen Meadows, Burghound 92-94 Points WK 92-94

The pure, super-elegant and airy nose displays its array of plum, red and dark currant, spice and pretty floral wisps. The notably finer if less powerful and muscular middle weight flavors also possess both lovely detail and punch, all wrapped in youthfully austere, balanced and highly persistent finish. Powerful and muscular, the 2020 Volnay Vieilles Vignes is richer than the ethereal Clos de la Cave, offering up aromas of sweet cherries, plum compote, licorice and spices. Full-bodied, layered and enveloping, it’s broad shouldered and fleshy, with lively acids and a long, expansive finish. Drink 2030-2050 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 92 Points
