Serious Chenin here. A big jump from the Midi. Lambert appears to be working with a little more phenolic extract adding a playful grip and cleansing astringency. Very complete and flowing. David’s extra time in old oak and a 2nd winter in tank give it harmony and refinement, flowing with a real step up in sophistication.Super zippy, mineral acid with the core of fruit to support it. Building generosity and freshness in the glass on a fine crisp acidity. Heading more strongly down the quinc

Barthod’s Bourgogne Blanc, made from Chardonnay planted in the late 2010s. It was the estate’s first commercial white wine (they previously produced only tiny, family-use whites from old Pinot Beurot and Chardonnay vines). The Les Graviers vineyard, named for its stony soils and located near Les Bon Batons, on the edge of Chambolle, saw its first release from the 2020 vintage, with élevage set at 50% used 500-litre oak and 50% terracotta amphora. The 2023 is delicious: both fleshy and racy

Domaine Faiveley Mercurey 1er Cru Clos de Myglands Monopole 2021
Hard to beat for the $
Give it a couple of days open or a few years in bottle and you'll go to a happy place. Reviews yet to come. Kelley's note below is of the 2020. Along with the Le Clos du Roy this represents one of the best value Burgundies on the market. As I wrote earlier this year, Faiveley's 2019 Mercurey 1er Cru Clos des Myglands is a success, delivering aromas of sweet berry fruit, plums, espresso roast and spices. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with powdery tannins and lively acids, it's a

From Ravera in Monforte. As the vines age they will make Barolo! From Ravera in Monforte, this is made from the youngest vines (that will eventually be made as Barolo) and is made the same way as her three Barolos and then aged in barriques for twelve months. As a baby Barolo, this has some serious pedigree with rich, plush fruit of red berries with crushed flowers. Hard to beat for the money and an ‘affordable’ cellaring option.**Due Sept 2025**

Alfio Cosentino 'Vigna Don Paolo' Etna Bianco Superiore DOC 2022
BENCHMARK!
Wow! This is dynamite! Pure, crystalline energy. The divine funk of whites with low pH, that lanolin twist and earthy spice that you often see in great white Burg's and top-end dry rizza from Alsaca & Germany. Superb texture, the quality of the acid & phenolics wrapping fruit of great intensity and transparency is insane. The shape & flow caress & ignite! The intrigue builds with citrus oils, white flowers, a good pinch of salt, a little earthiness and a savoury play. This is

Thibaud Boudignon Anjou Blanc Grey Label 2021

Chenin Blanc | Loire Valley, Anjou

The Anjou Blanc was previously produced from bought-in fruit, but the 2021 vintage was made up of 50% of the estate's fruit. Tasted after being opened for three days, it has taken on an added richness and roundness that wasn't previously there. There's a mere soupçon of flinty character. Intense and precise, with laser-like acidity flying through the mouth like an arrow. The finish is nutty, pastry and lightly salty, lingering with the merest tonic-like bitterness.Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous 91

A Vino de Pasto from the laminated Albarizas Barajuelas of Pago Macharnudo. Willy Perez has turned out an absolutely ripping 'Escribana' in 2024. Willy clearly has epic touch eliciting balance, complexity, texture and freshness to give us an entrancing wine. In reference to flavour I typical refer to a core of fruit for most grape varieties and wines. Drinking Vino de Pasto, I prefer to refer to a core of flavour. The 2024 'Escribana' certainly has flavour to burn. Saline & nutty with gr

Huet Vouvray Sec 'Clos du Bourg' 2021
Dry 3g/L

Huet Vouvray Sec ‘Clos du Bourg’ 2021

Chenin Blanc | Vouvray, D'Anjou-Saumur

“The 2021 Clos du Bourg Sec is an ample, full bodied wine with a stream of acidity. Pure, floral and fragrant with aromas of pineapple, violets and fresh grapes. While rich, it is light in sensation, like a cloud of Chenin filling the mouth, and finishes with a fine, almost powdery and chalky texture.”Rebecca Gibb, Vinous 95 Points

A wee hit of sulphur blows off quickly in the glass. Holds this in good stead for a long life. Crystal clear. A layer of lanolin funk and spice floats above vibrant fruits that build on the palate fanning out offering great persistence.A little cleansing phenolics and fine acid balance a creamy mouthfeel. The fruit is nicely developed making for delicious drinking now with more to come.Spicy and full of tension, the 2022 Etna Bianco Le Vigne Niche Montalto bursts from the glass wit

Cappellano Barbera 2021

Barbera | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

The 2021 Barbera d'Alba is a new wine from Cappellano. Sourced from a close friends vineyard in the Roero it has a very different flavour and tannin profile to the Barbera Gabutti which needed replanting after years of decline.Like all good Barbera and Cappellano wines, the 2021 Barbera shows excellent development and refinement. Given this is the first release it'll be fascinating to see how Augusto evolves this wine in future vintages. I suspect the soils here will be sandier as is more ty
