The 2020 is a fine, elegant rendition with fruit remaining true to site. Chalky mineral acid lining the palate. The usual cracked yeast, nutty, crème pâtissière note pop up. Nice level of tensions here with fine fresh citrus, zest and white stone fruit at play. Wonderful seamless long texture.

I don’t often use the word precision when describing wine, but in the case of the Dappled ‘Les Verges’ Chardonnay it feels entirely appropriate. This is not to suggest the wine is without character – there is plenty of that. From vivid notes of green apple and apricot, lemon zest, flint, hazelnuts and a waft of baking spice, to a meticulously balanced framework of acidity, body and drive, this wine presents an exacting and incredibly elegant expression of Yarra Valley Chardonnay.

“2020 vintage is pretty much the polar opposite to the 2019 vintage, the one thing I can say about my wines is they are always true to the vintage. I’m not one to manipulate my wines to encourage to be a certain way and Stylistically the wines show the Dappled charters for those who follow the wines.. I’d like to say the true meaning of Dappled shines through this vintage that being light and shade; 2020 was cool and the wines show tension and delicacy, if you are looking for blockbusters then these are not for you.. If you are looking for a true sense of the vintage then these I feel are as true wines as I have ever made.. be patient with them and they will reward.”
“I started Dappled in 2009 with a view to make high quality, unadulterated wines from special patches of dirt at realistic prices. I make these wines first and foremost for my family and friends, so a hand-crafted, minimal intervention philosophy just makes perfect sense to me.”

“Coming from the duplex soils (red volcanic and mud stone loams) of Macclesfield this was the ideal site for the season. Dijon clone 76’ reacted well to the cooler weather on this site and resulted in a detailed and generous fruit.”
The resultant wine was fermented naturally with no settling in all one year old French Oak (Puncheons and Barriques) the wine also was allowed to complete approx 30% MLF to allow some softening of acidity.
Dappled makes wine in Victoria with fruit coming from vineyards in the Yarra Valley.
