Description

Excellent drinking at this price point. Complete with well developed strawberries and cream with savoury, generous fruit. Playful and fun, solid depth and length. This is a big step up from the standard Barbaresco. The sophistication of mouthfeel, layering of tannins and flavours marking the difference. Serraboella turns out wines of interest from a number of producers including Barale, looking forward to seeing their 2019 too! This one is well worth a look.

About Bera

Azienda Agricola Bera, the Bera family farm, is in Piedmont, in the Langhe area between Alba and Asti on the road from Barbaresco and Neive that climbs up towards Neviglie. Here, countryside life is tied to a tradition that knows no boundaries, and does not even spare the forest spaces where the white truffle of Alba born. The winemaking tradition goes back centuries in the Bera family. But only at the end of the ‘70s did they start producing wines to bottle and sell with their own label. Today, the farm is spread over an area of 30 hectares, 23 of which are vineyards that also extend into the nearby towns. From the time of Luigi Veronelli’s description to the present, some things have changed: the vineyards and the varieties of the wines have grown, and the winery has been modernized. Also, with the passing of the winery to Valter and Alida, a new generation has joined the family azienda: Umberto and Riccardo.

The family produces Moscato for the production of Asti and Moscato d’Asti, and Nebbiolo to make Barbaresco, Nebbiolo Langhe and the amazing Sassisto. But Valter and his two sons also look ahead. So while they continue to produce Dolcetto and Barbera to stay true to their territorial wines, they also produce Chardonnay and Pinot Nero for their unique and intriguing Alta Langa Bera Brut metodo classico.

They hold parcels of Rabajà, Basarin, and Serraboella in Barbaresco along with Mosconi and sites in Castiglione Falletto in Barolo.

95 Points

Forest floor, red berry, leather and toasted hazelnut aromas waft out of the glass. It's full-bodied and savory, featuring flavors of raspberry jam, licorice and vanilla set against tightly knit, fine-grained tannins bright acidity. Drink 2027–2035.
