Larger Bottles 1-15L

Sometimes a single bottle just doesn’t befit the occasion!

When you need to celebrate in style a magnum is the minimum.

Wisdom suggests the larger the bottle the slower the wine inside will age.

There’s another interesting factor when it comes to bottle fermented sparkling like Champagne. The fermentation ‘kinetics’ the way the wine ferments in magnum just seems to give the Champagne magnums the edge in quality over single bottles.

Maybe it’s just the party environment!

Here’s a list of different wine bottle sizes.

1.5L Magnum = 2 x 750 ml bottles.

3.0L Double Magnum – Jeroboam = 2 x Magnums or 4 x 750ml bottles.

4.5L Jeroboam (aka Rehoboam) = 6 x 750 ml bottles. (Jeroboam is either 3 or 4.5 L depending on what part of France you’re in)

6.0L Imperial (aka Methuselah) = 8 x 750 ml bottles or 2 x Double Magnums.

9.0L Salmanazar = 12 x 750 ml bottles or a full case of wine!

12.0L Balthazar = 16 x 750 ml bottles or two Imperials.

15.0L Nebuchadnezzar = 20 x 750 ml bottles or the name of the ship in the Matrix.

18.0 L Solomon (aka Melchoir) = 24 x 750 ml bottles.

Insane flavour!
There's a purity & intensity about this wine that combined with the juicy acid is so so satisfying! The Côte des Blancs is home to all the great Chardonnay vineyards in Champagne. The Grand Cru vineyards are the best of these. When I worked at Legras et Haas, the Grand Cru Chardonnay was exceptional. I was blown away just tasting the juice. The quality of this wine reminds me of that oh so delicious juice! Péters' flagship Champagne is a blend of 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay spanning more than

Thought to be the oldest documented vineyard, the name “Im Weingebirge”, Wine Mountains, dates back to the 5th Century. The wines from this vineyard are known to have impressive depth and minerality. The soil is varied with loess on the higher terraces and deep topsoil over primary rock lower down the slope. The wine ages on its lees in old barrels, giving it a creamy texture to match the fruit and Grüner spice. **REVIEW OF THE 2020** Previously called Im Weingebirge, the 2020 Gr

Poised, refined, rich with wonderful tension. “The 2021er Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett offers a superbly appealing and hugely complex nose of lily flowers, lozenge, fine spices, thyme, rosemary, spearmint, almond, and cassis, all wrapped in great minty smoke. The wine is superbly playful on the palate, where there are refined flavors of vineyard peach, orange blossom, and almond cream. It proves airy and light-footed. The finish is very delicate and pure. Pavelot's Top wine rates as one of the few remaining bargains in Burgundy! The 2018 was delicious the 2019 will be in my gob next week! A perfumed, ripe and cool nose features notes of red currant, black raspberry, violet and a hint of sandalwood. There is very fine mid-palate density with an abundance of sappy dry extract to the velvety and mouth coating flavors that flash good minerality on the powerful, balanced and hugely long finish. This is marvelous but it's also a buy and forget

The Super Stars!
Brooding and dark, bold structure, while still being supple. There's a trick! Tightly coiled it progressively opened. This will be a special wine in time. So much going on! Fabulous, both in itself and as a contrast to Villero. Where Villero is delicate and persistent, all finesse, Rocche is much more forceful with a similar range of characters. Everything is darker, deeper and more. The glory of this pre-eminent cru is the combo of style and power; how such waves and complexities stay in such l

At this early stage in its life it sit with harmony, together. Expressive, a long even palate, stunning tannins that caress. The perfume is intoxicating, faded flowers of Castiglione Falletto. A superb core of fruit of exceptional length. Year in year out this is in the top 3 of Sordo 8 Barolo Crus. It looks like this year will be no different. Savoury, a little salty and earthy. Great intensity and transparency! “The 2021er Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese is really restrained and almost non-saying at this early stage, but already hints at the complexity to come as it reveals after a few minutes very delicate notes of whipped almond cream, lily flowers, vineyard peach, minty herbs, smoke, candied grapefruit, and quite some fine spices. The wine proves creamy yet intense and dynamic on the palate. It proves very focused and already hugely long. This will need quit

They understand the rule book so have thrown it away only to be used when they know they need to. I guess that's what 150 years of making wine can give you! The 2016 of this was a cracker. True to the vintage & site with bold yet refined structure. The 2019 is again a cracker and true to vintage. This time all grace and elegance from what is proving a classic year. "A lightly riper and somewhat spicier nose offers up notes of plum, black raspberry and a hint of forest floor. There is better verve and intensity to the plush but focused flavors that also flash a touch of backend austerity on the equally mineral suffused finale. This is sufficiently firm to reward 10+ years of cellaring but not so tightly wound that it couldn't be approached after only 5 or so years." Drink: 2029+ Outstanding ♥ Burghound
