An overtly floral nose reflects notes of rose petal, lavender, acacia and violet along with nuances of red and black fruit, earth and a whiff of forest floor. There is excellent intensity, size, weight and power to the attractively textured big-bodied flavors that brim with minerality on the caressing but punchy finale. This beautifully balanced effort is in the classic mold of this wine as it's very clearly built for the long haul and again, I would suggest not touching this wine for at least a

Massolino “Parussi” Barolo MAGNUM 2017

Nebbiolo | Castiglione Falletto, Italy

Massolino’s Castiglione Falletto Parussi tannins take longer to resolve than Parafada. Bordering both core soil types. Quite dense and layered. Bright red fruit with darker macerative pops. Fresh acid long. Will resolve beautifully in time.Comes in individual wooden box.

Figli Luigi Oddero ‘Vigna Rionda’ Riserva Barolo 2015

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

Listening to Matt Large who's just back from his annual trek for vintage at Luigi Oddero with Francesco Versio I learnt so much about Vigna Rionda. Like Burgundy and Cannubi, there's Vigna Rionda and then there's Vigna Rionda! Oddero is the original. South South-East facing sandwiched between Giovanni Rosso's Ester Canale and Poderi Oddero's parcel on lean helvetian soils high in mineral content and at elevation have offered up divine fruit. The 2015 shows the structured tannins of Serralunga

Domaine Nicole Lamarche ‘Echezeaux’ Grand Cru 2018

Pinot Noir | Vosne-Romanée, France

Sometimes when your vineyard is surround that's OK especially when it's surrounded by DRC! I've had the pleasure of drinking La Grande Rue a couple of times. It's the benchmark wine of the estate that sits across a tiny laneway from LaTâche. La Grande Rue is sensual, feminine, with an incredible perfume, and silky texture. A special wine indeed.Vosne-Romanée tensd to be a bit of mixed bag of the haves and have nots. Lamarche is a have!Nicole, François' daughter has been in charge of t

"Here too moderate reduction renders the nose difficult to assess. The relatively delicate and refined middle weight flavors possess no lack of punch that carries over to the youthfully austere, complex and sneaky long finish that is quite tightly wound so patience advised." Vietti Barolo ‘Brunate’ 2017

Nebbiolo | La Morra, Italy

The 2017 Barolo Brunate is a powerful, brooding wine. Huge dark fruit, leather, spice, menthol and dried herbs all build in a potent Barolo that is enshrouded by tannins. The 2017 is going to need quite a bit of time in the cellar. Today, it is very much a brooding powerhouse. Dark wild cherry, licorice, tar, menthol and spice take shape in the glass, but the 2017 is clearly an infant, and an unruly one at that. Drink 2025 - 2042 Galloni

Vietti Barolo ‘Ravera’ 2017

Nebbiolo | Novello, Italy

The 2017 Barolo Ravera is a powerhouse. My impression is that the 2017 is going to develop into something truly special. It has all the energy that makes this site so distinctive, but with an extra kick of fruit density and a whole range of exotic aromatics that make for a truly drop dead gorgeous wine. Bright red/purplish fruit, rose petal, chalk and white pepper build into a finish laced with searing intensity. This is such and impressive wine. Drink 2027 - 2042 Galloni

Vietti Barolo ‘Lazzarito’ 2017

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Italy

Vietti's 2017 Barolo Lazzarito is absolutely gorgeous. Whatever the challenges of the growing season, they appear to have been no problem here. More than anything else, the Lazzarito impresses with its magnificent depth and stature. Super-ripe red fruit, white pepper, mint, tobacco, cured meat, spice and rose petal open gradually with time in the glass. I would not be in a rush to open bottles anytime soon. The Lazzarito has been one of the most improved wines at Vietti for a number of years. Th

A more deeply pitched and somewhat less elegant nose combines notes of spiced plum, dark raspberry and touches of earth, tea and sandalwood. Domenico Clerico Barolo ‘Bricotto’ 2021

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Excellent generosity, savoury with a rich core of perfumed fruit and fine, elegant tannin. Mostly sand in the vineyards of Bussia here. Plush, blood red fruit mix with a pinch of baking spice. Chocolatey fanning out generously. Only 13 times since 1978. Consistency of weather throughout the year the key. A welcoming wine with great finesse. It's a demonstration of just how different the terroirs of Monforte are, justifying the work being done to break it down into a more granular set of MGAs.
