Domaine Jean-Jacques Nuits-Saint-Georges ‘Fleurieres’ 2019

Pinot Noir | Nuits-Saint-Georges, France

“One third whole bunch vinification. Medium deep purple with quite an elegant bouquet for south side Nuits-St-Georges, starting with delicacy and finishing with much more powerful dark fruit, and very good length of flavour.”Jasper Morris

The 2019 Pinot Noir Saint Rose a new wine in this lineup. The 2019 is a blend of the best barrels from Domaine de la Côte and La Encantada vineyards. Ripe red cherry, blood orange, spice, menthol and a good deal of savoriness from the 50% whole clusters are front and center. Pliant and creamy, the 2019 is so expressive todav. A few years in bottle should help the tannins soften.Antonio Galloni, Vinous 94 PointsOn first pour the nose shows complexity with a pleasant layer of developm

Eric et Joël Durand Cornas ‘Confidence’ 2019

Shiraz/Syrah | Rhône Valley, Cornas

The sophistication and depth of tannin here is impressive. Again a lick of cleverly used, integrated oak hiding behind the fruit that will disappear completely with a little time in bottle. The extra year already sees it resolving. Silky, super fine grape tannins run the length of the palate with lingering fruit of energy. The graphite and mineral thing happening. Even with one extra year the complexity is building. Fresh clean and precise wines with plenty more to come.  The 2019 Corn

Barale Barolo ‘Castellero’ 2020

Nebbiolo | Italy, Barolo

Lovely composition. Complex layered, transparency is there. Beautifully weighted again with edgy, playful grip. Savoury and dark. Barale's 2020's are some of the best 2020’s I’ve had and this is one of Barale's best interations of Castellero in recent years.  Superb drinking. So much going on. Damn, when these guys get it together! The 2020 Barolo Castellero is a powerful, savory wine. Dark fruit, menthol, licorice, spice and a host of balsamic notes all run through this dense, viril

Barale Barolo ‘Bussia’ 2020

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Moving to Monforte at the top of Bussia we see the hallmarks of the top Bussia. The acid tannin complex is true to the form for the commune showing a playful grip. Bright red fruit with a certain delicacy combine with energetic acid.A fine Bussia with considerable depth and length. A delicate perfume over the top of a very fine transparent Barolo. Thirst quenching. Lovely red and savoury fruit. Delicate Bussia yet still with generosity, now there's a trick.  Complete refined. Delicious. Mou

Stéphane Magnien Morey Saint Denis ‘Grains Fins’ 2022

Pinot Noir | Morey-Saint-Denis, Burgundy

There's a great purity & vibrancy to Magnien's wines. His Faconnières is superb! A fresh, bright and airy nose reflects notes of mostly red berries and newly turned earth. The supple, round and agreeably textured flavors are not especially dense but the finish is also inviting despite being dusty and youthfully austere. A few years of patience should be beneficial. Domaine Comte Armand Volnay 2022

Pinot Noir | Volnay, Burgundy

Here the expressive nose features a broader range of spice elements to the ripe and fresh aromas of cassis, black raspberry and violet scents. The notably finer but not denser medium-bodied flavors possess a lovely texture thanks to the relatively fine-grained tannins shaping the youthfully austere finale. This velvet-textured effort should also be capable of repaying mid-term keeping. (from Les Grands Champs and Les Famines) 2028+ ♥ OutstandingAllen Meadows, Burghound (89-91) Points

A blend of Tempranillo and Graciano. Exceptionally long, fine and fresh with a stunning elegant acid line. Beautifully balanced. Red to blue fruits with a little licorice. Darkness with the red fruit layering over the top. The faintest lick of oak will undoubtedly be lapped up in just a short time. Layered and flowing. I’d love to see the tannins in 3-5 years and the expression. This is well worth having a look at. A demonstration of the new Rioja!El Escolladero is a vineyard plan

Known above all for the exceptional quality of the wines Giacosa has produced over the years, Valmaggiore still represents the peak of value in the current range. A wonderful vineyard site now popularised by a handful of producers including Giacosa, the Valmaggiore bottling displays a noticeable step up in nuance and structure to the ‘regular’ Nebbiolo d’Alba which comes from various sites in Roero.Nebbiolo’s typical red fruits and red rose are abundant in the Nebbiolo Valmaggiore, w

Oddero Barbaresco ‘Gallina’ 2016

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barbaresco

After 3 days open this came into its own and really shone. The tannins have softened a little, harmonising with the fruit. The wine has resolved to reveal a balance, beauty and perfume that sat shy on first opening! Some serious quality here. Vibrant and energetic Slatey mineral chalky nature. Excellent mouth-coating tannins that are fine with great line and length. Juicy acid ramps up some juicy fruit. Excellent elevage.  The lasting note is fruit, red and fun. Four years after its release, Bouchard's 1er Teurons is drinking beautifully. It's in a lovely space. Fully resolved, a wonderful array of complex aromas lift from the glass, leaning toward the earthy, fine shroom, savoury, darker fruited side of the spectrum. A very subtle layer of oak complementing the fruit beautifully. It's both intriguing and enticing. A soft, plush mouthfeel with delicate tannins and modest acidity offers generosity and comfort. Lot's of fun and great value for the coin.
