Nebbiolo from Neive, Barbaresco

Sottimano Barbaresco ‘Basarin’ 2021

An elegance and grace from a perfumed savoury cherry laden aroma. Showing complexity and seamless harmony. Flowing fine and exceptionally developed. Earthy with anise, garrigue, tar and liquorice all wrapping a long even core of pure fruit with ripe and layered tannins, a little black tea woven in. This will be quite some wine in years to come.Paul Kaan, Wine Decoded Feb 2025The 2021 Barbaresco Basarin is fabulous. Rich, ample and seductive, the Basarin marries the charm that is so t

Nebbiolo from Neive, Barbaresco

Sottimano Barbaresco ‘Cotta’ 2021

Brooding, there’s a richness counterpointed with transparency and a thirst-quenching acid tannin complex. Those tannins are nutty, layered long and even with a playful grip. Savoury with superb fruit. Darker, maraschino cherry with a chocolatey lick. Power with delicacy. Flowing and delicious. Serious and impressive.Paul Kaan, Wine Decoded Feb 2025The 2021 Barbaresco Cottá is quite the powerhouse. As usual, it is marked by a huge mid-palate of fruit, but more classic winemaking th

Pinot Noir from Savigny-lès-Beaune, Côte du Beaune

Domaine Jean Marc & Hugues Pavelot Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru ‘La Dominode’ 2022

Pavelot's Top wine rates as one of the few remaining bargains in Burgundy! This is at once the spiciest and the most floral-suffused nose in the range with its ripe yet ultra-fresh nose of various dark berries, anise and newly turned earth scents. The mouthfeel is also intriguing as it combines excellent density with an appealing sleekness that carries over to the mineral-driven, powerful and compact finale that is wonderfully persistent if very clearly built-to-age. This is almost always Pavel

Giovanni Sordo Barolo 'Rocche di Castiglione' 2013
The Super Stars!

Nebbiolo from Castiglione Falletto, Barolo

Giovanni Sordo Barolo ‘Rocche di Castiglione’ 2013

"Very serious and brooding nose, with rusty iron and fresh blood. Super-layered palate with depth and great presence. Palate is pretty and delicate, yet also very serious with a deep core of darker fruit, rusty iron and some fresh leather. Great length with lovely lingering tannins." Peter Godden, Neb Guru. Fabulous, both in itself and as a contrast to Villero. Where Villero is delicate and persistent, all finesse, Rocche is much more forceful with a similar range of characters. Everything is d

Giovanni Sordo Barolo 'Perno' 2013
The Bold!

Nebbiolo from Monforte d'Alba, Barolo

Giovanni Sordo Barolo ‘Perno’ 2013

Bigger than most other wines, with more grunt in all respects. Complex. Chewy and very full palate with a wall of tannins. Meaty flavours with some ironstone. Old-school. Peter Godden, Neb Guru This is all Monforte, with giveaway blue fruits, violet, cherry liqueur and some mint. Firm, taut and fleshy, this is typical of this part of Perno, the Cerretta parcel, immediately adjoining Conterno-Fantino’s, with which it shares a similar darker ‘blue’ style. Tannins seem very ripe this year

Giovanni Sordo Barolo 'Ravera' 2013
The Playful!

Nebbiolo from Novello, Barolo

Giovanni Sordo Barolo ‘Ravera’ 2013

Ravera = generosity with crunchy fruit and playful front mid-palate tannin, that Sordo élévage, so much fun! ‘Ravishing red’ as usual, a wave of roses and red cherry. Quite lush, but holds its shape as all that red rolls to the pinpoint, tingling finish. It’s no wonder Ravera has risen so much in people’s estimation over recent years. Serious Barolo of a distinct style. Big and dense in colour, and all other respects. Big and chewy in mouth, yet fine line and varietal shape, with rich

Pinot Noir from Nuits-Saint-Georges, Côte-de-Nuits

David Duband Nuits-Saint-Georges 2019

"A relatively airy and cool nose freely offers up notes of various red berries, earth and a floral top note. The sleek and relatively refined middle weight flavors contrast somewhat with the youthfully austere and mildly rustic finale that exhibits slightly better depth and persistence on the more structured finale. This is quite a good Nuits villages and worth a look. ♥"Allen Meadows, Burghound

Pinot Noir from Chassagne-Montrachet, Côte du Beaune

Domaine Blain-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet ‘Clos St Jean’ Rouge 2021

This is also relatively deeply colored. The ultra-fresh nose freely offers up its aromas of the cool essence of red currant along with background wisps of earth and violet. The racy and beautifully detailed medium weight flavors exude a very subtle minerality on the bitter pit fruit-inflected finale. This youthfully austere effort should repay mid-term keeping.”Allen Meadows, Burghound 89 Points

Barbera from Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

Cappellano Barbera Gabutti 2019

The 2019 Barbera d'Alba Gabutti is a delicate, perfumed Barbera with a Nebbiolo-like feeling of mid-weight structure. Succulent dark cherry fruit, tobacco, spice, leather, menthol and blood orange are pushed forward. A kick of bright acids on the finish keeps things vibrant. This unique, idiosyncratic Barbera is compelling. I have no doubt Cappellano fans with love it. Drink 2024-2034Antonio Galloni - NR as per request from Cappellano

Nebbiolo from Bussia, Monforte d'Alba

Poderi Colla Barolo Bussia ‘Dardi Le Rose’ 2021

The single best Dardi Le Rose I've seen from Poderi Colla. Serious wine, yet, with a playful side. Excellent tannins, depth and length. A dark note melds into red fruits. Fresh, energetic & layered.  Structured Monforte Tannins with a beautifully weighted presence.Lovely perfume. Earthy, forest floor, with a dash of licorice/tar + so much more going on already! A few years in bottle will see it through the first phase of development and into a very happy place. Plenty of legs on it and
