There is an interesting hint of smoked meat character to the spicy plum, newly turned earth and softly floral-scented nose. Once again there is an appealing texture to the broad-shouldered and muscular flavors that possess fine volume before concluding in a very firmly structured and impressively long finale. Pinot Noir from Vosne-Romanée, Côte-de-Nuits
This is the first wine to display any meaningful level of reduction and here it’s enough to push the fruit to the background. By contrast there is a lovely sense of verve and freshness on the palate of the sleek but intense and generously proportioned medium weight plus flavors that coat the mouth on the sneaky long finish. Mid lemon yellow. Some delicacy, without disputing the imminent power. A pure bench of fresh white fruit, actually this is more about nuances than power, though it maintains energy all the way through, to a fine long finish. This is also airy and cool with a beautifully layered nose featuring notes of green apple, white flowers and a discreet hint of exotic tea. The almost painfully intense, sleek and tension-filled flavors display beautiful cut and minerality while delivering superb length on the chiseled, linear and youthfully austere finale. Here too the nose is overtly floral in character with its layered blend of red and dark raspberry, warm earth and discreet spice wisps. There is again very fine mid-palate density to the slightly bigger-bodied tension-filled flavors that flash evident muscle and power on the moderately austere, firmly structured and impressively long finish. The 2015 Barbaresco Pajè Vecchie Viti captures everything that makes Nebbiolo so seductive. The 2016 Barbaresco Pajè Vecchie Viti is an exotic, totally beguiling wine laced with super-classic Nebbiolo notes of rose petal, orange peel, cinnamon and macerated cherry. Aromatic, sensual and constantly changing in the glass, the Pajè Vecchie Viti is everything Nebbiolo and Barbaresco are supposed to be. The complexity here is just unreal.Antonio Galloni, Vinous

The 2016 Barbaresco Montefico Vecchie Viti is a big, statuesque wine. Of all the 2016 Barbarescos, the Montefico seems to be the wine that is still recovering most from its bottling, about two months before this tasting. The 2016 Barbaresco Asili Vecchie Viti is sensual, gracious and light on its feet. The purity of the fruit is simply dazzling, while tannins are all Asili, which means a bit softer than in the other wines. In the glass, the Asili is beautifully perfumed and ethereal, yet also quite deep, in the way only Nebbiolo can be. Pinot Noir from Gevrey-Chambertin, Côte-de-Nuits
Moderately generous wood and menthol fight somewhat with the exuberantly spicy black cherry liqueur-like aromas that are cut with lovely floral wisps. There is excellent concentration to the bigger-bodied and more powerful flavors that are blessed with ample amounts of sappy dry extract that does a fine job of buffering the firm tannic spine shaping the complex, balanced and hugely long finale. Chardonnay from Chassagne-Montrachet, Côte du Beaune
Generous but not dominant wood sets off intensely floral-suffused aromas of white peach, spice, acacia and citrus confit. The palate impression of the medium-bodied flavors is not as dense, mineral-driven or powerful but they are still impressive, especially in the context of having even better depth and persistence. This is a stylish and ageworthy Bâtard. (from a .38 ha holding divided into 3 parcels, two of which are on the Chassagne side and the remainder on the Puligny side of the divide) 2
Pinot Noir from Nuits-Saint-Georges, Côte-de-Nuits
This is spicier still with its broad-ranging nose of red and dark pinot fruit, violet and herbal tea, all of which is trimmed by soft wood influence. There is a bit more minerality present on the vibrant and lavishly rich medium weight flavors that possess excellent power that carries over to the firm and tautly muscular finish that is balanced and long plus it’s less austere than usual.
