Nebbiolo from Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

Giacomo Conterno Barolo ‘Francia’ 2021

The 2021 Barolo Francia is a vertical, explosive Barolo endowed with tons of energy. Bright acids and fine beams of tannin provide the framework for this striking young Barolo. All the elements are so well balanced. Time in the glass brings out an interplay of mineral-drenched energy, persistence and textural breadth. There's a lot of structure, and yet the tannins feel fine-grained and finessed.I especially admire its translucent energy. Magnificent. Antonio Galli, Vinous 99 Points

Pinot Noir from Vosne-Romanée, Côte-de-Nuits

Domaine Bouchard Pere et Fils Grand Cru Echezeaux ‘En Orvueax’ 2020

This was one of the few wines in the line-up to display any appreciable reduction and in this case it's enough to mask the underlying fruit. The suave, round and highly seductive medium-bodied flavors possess a caressing texture yet there is good underlying power to the acceptably long and complex finale. This seemed slightly out of sorts though I suspect that it will better harmonize once in bottle.Allen Meadows, Burghound 90-93 Points

Pinot Noir from Ambonnay, Montagne de Reims

Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs Vielles Vigne Base 2016/2015

Combining richness with precision, an incredible texture & complexity make it almost impossible to describe this wine! The hallmarks of greatness. This wine truly takes me to a happy place. The first time I tasted Egly's Blanc de Noir was next to a Krug NV, a very good bottle at that, the Egly was inspirational. The élévage of this wine is simply perfect. Taking the time to mature base wines before blending and bottling makes an incredible difference to fruit of this quality, adding 70 mon

Red Blend from Valpolicella, Veneto

Giuseppe Quintarelli Alzero 2017

Minty herbs come together with split pine, graphite and gravel dust before settling on peppery wildberries as the radiant 2017 Alzero smolders up from the glass. It is elegant, seamless and silken, with masses of ripe raspberry and cherry tones underscored by autumnal spice and hints of dark chocolate, all guided by a wave of vibrant acidity. It finishes with dramatic length and heroic structure, leaving a staining of primary concentration and a pleasantly bitter tinge of clove that lingers imp

Chardonnay from Chassagne-Montrachet, Côte du Beaune

Domaine Blain-Gagnard Grand Cru ‘Criots-Batard-Montrachet’ 2021

Here too there is just enough wood to merit mentioning as well as a hint of the exotic to be found on the aromas of pear confit, jasmine tea, orange peel and peach. There is superb density to the highly seductive, even plush, larger-bodied flavors that possess a suave mouthfeel while displaying stunningly good length on the powerful, firm and built-to-age finale. This is a strikingly good Criots that could be approached after only 5 to 7 years yet should repay up to 15 years of keeping. Don't M

Pinot Noir from Vougeot, Côte-de-Nuits

Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat Grand Cru ‘Clos de Vougeot’ 2021

Here too there is a hint of herbal tea to the more deeply pitched and earthier aromas. There is almost painful intensity to the sleek medium-bodied flavors that also conclude in a superbly long if decidedly austere finale. This is definitely a dense wine in the context of the 2021 vintage and not surprisingly, one of the more powerful ones as well. Patience strongly advised. Domaine Faiveley Latricières Chambertin Grand Cru 2022
Divine Wine!

Pinot Noir from Gevrey-Chambertin, Côte-de-Nuits

Domaine Faiveley Latricières Chambertin Grand Cru 2022

Latricières Chambertin is an incredible site! I had Faiveley's 2015 Latricières Chambertin recently, delicious, perfumed elegant and refined. Along with the 2015, I devoured a brace of 2016's from across the appellations. They are really stepping up their game, the investments in the vineyard and winery are a testament to this. There is enough wood influence to merit pointing out on the airy, cool and layered nose of both red and dark currant, the sauvage and plenty of forest floor char

Pinot Noir from Gevrey-Chambertin, Côte-de-Nuits

Domaine Faiveley ‘Mazis Chambertin’ Grand Cru 2022

Mazi is alway a favourite. Hugely long yet impeccably well-balanced! Toasty reduction knocks down the nose but there is fine freshness and richness to the suave and seductively textured bigger-bodied flavors that are generously proportioned while displaying both good tension and complexity on the impressively persistent and more powerful, if less refined, finish where a hint of wood appears. This isn’t quite as mineral-driven but save for a subtle touch of warmth, it’s beautifully balanced a

Nebbiolo from Castiglione Falletto, Barolo

Cavallotto Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis ‘Vigna San Giuseppe’ MAGNUM 2016

This is one of the benchmark traditional Barolo's! Every time I’ve tried Cavallotto’s ‘Vigna San Guiseppe’ I’ve gone to a very happed place. The core of fruit in is always insane. Having tasted a dozen of the best Baroli alongside Vigna San Guiseppe over many vintages, it’s clear this is up at the top of the list. Cavallotto’s always beautifully balances power with elegance. “A certified organic wine, the Cavallotto 2016 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe is born i

Chardonnay from Puligny-Montrachet, Côte du Beaune

Domaine Faiveley Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru 2020

Faiveley is definitely a Domaine on the Ascention Aromas of hazelnuts, pear, confit citrus, honeycomb, toasted almonds and fresh bread introduce the 2020 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, a full-bodied, rich and muscular wine that's layered and concentrated, girdled by bright acids and concluding with a long, saline finish.William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 93-95 BH 92-94

Port from Douro, Portugal

Quinta do Noval Colheita Tawny Port 1976

Another beauty in this wonderful Noval lineup, this, like so many of them, opens so rich and viscous that it seems simply astonishing that it is really this mature. It seems burly and youthful, fresh and invigorating. True, given the 2012 bottling date, it has not done much settling in the bottle—and those first tastes are often amazing. However, it was retasted in the USA as well some months later and over several days to boot. That rich, decadent first attack was still stunning a couple of d
