Pinot Noir from Rully, Côte Chalonnaise
Dureuil’s village Rully is drawn from three organically managed plots—Le Meix Cadot, Rosey and Montagne de Remenot—which cover just under three hectares in total. The average age of these vines is now 50 years. Janthial uses a Jayer-esque pre-ferment cold soak to extract the prettiest aromas and softer tannin. Touchstone Rully.
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy
The 2020 Chablis 1er Cru Les Lys is also especially good this year, delivering aromas of white flowers, citrus oil, freshly baked bread and bee pollen. Very recognisable again; the graphite and generous almost smoky black cherry/prune announces a Monvigliero. This is both expressive now, yet clearly very classy. Superb, the flint, the slate, the dark sour cherries, such length. Incredible wine. A hint of macerative, grape marc character, again energy, vibrancy. Nice florals. Pinot Noir from Volnay, Côte du Beaune
This is also aromatically cool but ripe and spicy though in this case the red and dark raspberry scents are notably more floral in character. The delicious, intense and well-detailed lighter weight flavors possess a succulent mid-palate that contrasts with the moderately austere and quite firm finale where a touch of sweetness gradually emerges. 2030+Allen Meadows, Burghound
