A remarkable wine 15 years in the making!
Calvarino 5 is the first wine of the "Vini dell'Anima" collection. Born from a project by Leonildo Pieropan and his sons Dario and Andrea, it is a blend of five Calvarino vintages (2008-2009-2010-2011-2012) aged for at least 10 years in large cement tanks on lees in the cellar.
Ageing this way in Pieropan's cool cellars is slow and controlled.
This is a fascinating wine highlighting the incredible results blending across vintages can deliver.Cool
Wonderfully floral and complex, the 2021 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo continues to improve in bottle with a perfumed bouquet that mixes apricot with crushed almond, yellow flowers and white smoke. This soothes the palate with its enveloping textures as a tinge of candied citrus enlivens ripe green apple and melon tones. It leaves the palate completely refreshed with a spike of acidity and mineral concentration, adding a crisp feel. Although enjoyable today, the 2021 is positioned for greatness over time
Wildly fresh, the 2021 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Fonte Canale is impossible to ignore, with a vivid blend of fennel and minty herbs, stone dust, flint and crushed green apples. This flows across the palate with liquid florals and depths of lime-infused orchard fruits, taking on a distinctly salty sensation toward the close. A whiplash of minerality and zesty acidity enlivens the finale as the 2021 finishes with staining concentration yet still vibrant and chiseled. Fonte Canale remains the benchmark f
By all accounts the 2021 is once again a demonstration of why Ian d'Agata decrees the Valentini's Trebbiano hails from another planet. This is only the 10th release of Trebbiano in the 21st century, such is Valentini's dedication to quality! In true Valentini style, the 2021 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo presents a rich, pretty bouquet that verges on confectionery but maintains its refinement-almond paste and dried peaches meld with sweet herbal nuances and hints of wet stone. Texturally deep and we
Good bright yellow. The pure, complex nose suggests lime, yellow apple and botanical herbs. Then very precise, intense and penetrating, if still youthfully unevolved, conveying a powerful, three-dimensional impression of extract and a deep, textured, multilayered mouthfeel. The wine closes very long and juicy, with herbal and saline elements that titillate the taste buds. Another outstanding wine from Valentini, who never misses a beat with his Trebbiano d’Abruzzo.Ian d'Agata, Vinous 93+ P
