Blend from Avenay-Val-d'Or, Vallée de la Marne
The perfect introduction to Pouillon's wines, yet, far from an entry level. The gives you a peak into just how much personality and vitality his wines have. Balancing a hint of oxidative character with delicious fruit with great length and depth. The Reserve Brut represents a little splash of fruit across most of Pouillon's holdings. The blend of Pinot, Meunier and Chardonnay is expertly integrated. Fabrice truly gets élévage. This is an incredibly complex, layered and beautiful Champagne. Suc
Riesling from Mosel, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer
Poised, refined, rich with wonderful tension. The 2024 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett opens with subtle hints of creamy woodruff, candied angelica and wet slate. The palate is lightness itself, like a veil of scented fruit referencing green apple, supple, sweet but tart citrus, like juicy, pale pomelo, rounded out with a touch of white peach. It is wonderfully serene, cooling, elegant and precise. (Off-dry)Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous 94 Points
Bordeaux Blend from Hawke's Bay, North Island
Only a handful for the Country! Perfumed Refined Goodness! A single vineyard wine until 1989, Coleraine is an blend of the finest wines produced from distinct plots within Te Mata Estate’s oldest Havelock Hills vineyards, first planted in 1892. Always a cabernet sauvignon dominant wine, often with merlot and cabernet franc, Coleraine is refined and classical, demonstrating the immense potential for Bordeaux blends in Hawke’s Bay. In fact, it looks mroe Bordelais than most Aussie Cabernet.
Nebbiolo from Neive, Barbaresco
They understand the rule book so have thrown it away only to be used when they know they need to. I guess that's what 150 years of making wine can give you! The 2016 of this was a cracker. True to the vintage & site with bold yet refined structure. The 2019 is again a cracker and true to vintage. This time all grace and elegance from what is proving a classic year.Beautifully weighted, the body of this slightly warmer vineyard with the clarity and sophistication of 2019 Barbaresco. Rich
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy
Ripe aromas of poached pear and apple compote are laced with hints of iodine, lemon rind and a whiff of brine. The succulent, round and sappy middle weight flavors display notably better than average persistence on the citrusy, clean and nicely dry finale. This punches above its weight and is worth a look. Nebbiolo from Castiglione Falletto, Barolo
Wow! A sensational Rocche. At this early stage in its life it sit with harmony, together. Expressive, a long even palate, stunning tannins that caress. The perfume is intoxicating, faded flowers of Castiglione Falletto. A superb core of fruit of exceptional length.Year in year out this is in the top 3 of Sordo 8 Barolo Crus. It looks like this year will be no different. Savoury, a little salty and earthy. This will be long lived. Beautifullly composed.
Nebbiolo from Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo
A wonderful expression of Serralunga, all of the tea, slate, graphite, exceptional quality tannins, with a presence and sophistication. The firm mouthfeel of seriously good Serralunga tannins. Again such a complete wine. The nose draws you in. Begging you to drink. A darkness and energy that is palpable.Impressive gear. Precise, and pure, wearing the vineyard and commune on its sleeve. Superb fruit of depth and length. Great drinking here with much much more to come.
Riesling from Mosel, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer
Poised, refined, rich with wonderful tension. The 2022er Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett has a superbly attractive and finely reductive nose of wild herbs, candied grapefruit, smoke, anise, orange blossom, fresh almond, white peach, rose petal, and lavender. The wine is superbly juicy and coats the palate with fine ripe yellow fruits and cream, and leaves a long, finely smoky, and delicately juicy feel of spices and herbs. This slightly richer version of Kabinett (for Prüm standards) remai
Pinot Noir from Savigny-lès-Beaune, Côte du Beaune
"A lightly riper and somewhat spicier nose offers up notes of plum, black raspberry and a hint of forest floor. There is better verve and intensity to the plush but focused flavors that also flash a touch of backend austerity on the equally mineral suffused finale. This is sufficiently firm to reward 10+ years of cellaring but not so tightly wound that it couldn't be approached after only 5 or so years." Drink: 2029+ Outstanding ♥Burghound
