Vietti Barolo ‘Ravera’ 2020

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Picked on October 9 and 10, the 2020 Barolo Ravera has plenty of Ravera classicism and tension, but also feels a bit light in the mid-palate. Ravera is never a huge wine in body, but the depth is often there, even if expressed in an understated and more linear manner. The 2020 lacks that depth. Red-toned fruit, blood orange, mint, spice and white pepper lend brilliance throughout.Antonio Galloni, Vinous 94 PointsThe Vietti 2020 Barolo Ravera offers dark fruit, cherry and blackcurrant

While Vietti's Villero is their Top Wine. This is my favorite! The 2020 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a magical wine from a magical site. It marries finesse and volume to a degree that is not found in most of the other wines in this range. Castiglione Falletto is the center of the Barolo production zone, literally and figuratively, the place where many different soil types meet. As a result, the wines often possess mind-blowing balance, which is very much the case here.Antonio Galloni, Vin

I tased again the stellar 2016 Gran Reserva 904, which is nothing short of being spectacular and a textbook example of the grand traditional style. It was produced with 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano from a selection of vineyards in search of balanced wines with silky tannins, good acidity, character, length and aging potential. The élevage is long, four years in used barrels that average 4.5 years of age, during which time the wine is manually racked every six months. It's ripe with 14.5% al

A more deeply pitched nose freely offers up its aromas of plum, earth and a whiff of the sauvage. The delicious and vibrant, if not especially dense, medium weight flavors possess good punch and focused power on the mildly austere, compact and built-to-age finale. This should age gracefully over a 12 to 15 year window and hold for another decade thereafter.Allen Meadows, Burghound 91-93 PointsThe 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers unfurls in the glass with aromas of plums,

This too is cool, airy and spicy with its essence of red currant, cherry and crushed fennel aromas. The notably finer texture of the middleweight flavors is immediately evident as there is a lilting but punchy mouthfeel, all wrapped in a dusty, silky and refined yet firm, serious and youthfully austere finish. I very much like the balance and this too should be more than capable of rewarding a decade plus of keeping.Allen Meadows, Burghound 91-93 PointsThe 2022 Vougeot 1er Cru Les Pe

The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Vieilles Vignes is shaping up beautifully, mingling aromas of dark berry fruit, orange rind, espresso roast, forest floor and warm spices in an incipiently complex bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's deep and complete, its serious long-haul structure largely concealed by a lively core of fruit. As usual, this "baby Clos de la Roche" derives from a parcel planted in the 1930s and 1940s that straddles the climats Faconnières and Chenev

This Cru is the jewel in the crown of the Commune of Verduno in Barolo! The 2021 Barolo Monvigliero is a pretty dense wine. I don't see quite the delineation or nuance of the tinest wines in this range or the best wines from this site, which leads me to believe Scavino is still getting a feel for Monvigliero. For many top producers, this would be a superb wine, but in this lineup, it's in the middle of the pack. Macerated cherry, spice, tobacco and cedar struggle to emerge fully. I hope to re

Well I couldn't find a review of this and haven't had a chance to taste it. Given the other 9 wines from 2016 and 2017 I've tried it's hard to see this being anything but true to form and simply put a 2017 version of the 2016!My Note on the 2016:Opens with juicy crunchy fruit that takes just a little while to settle in. More immediately overt than the others. There’s a build in tannin here that when you relate it back to the vineyard location near Rugien and listen to Anne Parents

Cerbaiona Brunello di Montalcino 2021

Sangiovese | Tuscany, Italy

I’d love to compare it directly to the 2021 Soldera and Poggio di Sotto. A wine from a maker with intent. It’s clear there is quality fruit here.Researching the Brunello, I came across Galloni's notes on the 2010 Brunello. "In all of my years tasting the wines of Montalcino, I have only come across two wines with this level of textural unctuosity and sweetness; Gianfranco Soldera's 1983 Brunello and 1990 Riserva."There is not a more emphatic statement that could be made about the cap

The 2016 Morey St Denis 1er Cru Vieilles Vignes, which comes from vines planted as far back as the 1930s, suffered a lot of millerandage so that the yields was 25 hectoliters per hectare. It is matured one-third new oak and one-third whole bunch fruit. It has an introspective bouquet at first and then gradually unfolds to reveal enticing blackberry, briary and cold stone scents—all very sophisticated and poised. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin, a disarming sense of symmetry an

A special release from the cellars of the Domaine!"A highly spiced and very Vosne nose offers up notably ripe aromas of cassis and black raspberry liqueur-like scents that display a subtle note of mocha. The very seductive, concentrated, suave and mouth coating flavors possess both excellent volume and solid mid-palate concentration before terminating in a balanced and lingering finale. This is certainly impressive in its fashion but for my taste it lacks the same vibrancy and delineation as
