Giovanni Sordo Barolo ‘Rocche di Castiglione’ MAGNUM 2019

Wow! A sensational Rocche. At this early stage in its life it sit with harmony, together. Expressive, a long even palate, stunning tannins that caress. The perfume is intoxicating, faded flowers of Castiglione Falletto. A superb core of fruit of exceptional length.Year in year out this is in the top 3 of Sordo 8 Barolo Crus. It looks like this year will be no different. Savoury, a little salty and earthy. This will be long lived. Beautifullly composed.

Red Blend from Etna, Sicily

Terre Nere ‘Dagala di Bocca D’Orzo’ Rosso D.O.C. 2021

This entire Contrada, Bocca d’Orzo, was buried in the lava flow of 1981, bar this tiny ‘dagala’ or island of intact 70-year-old vines. Marco negotiated and purchased this tiny 0.75 hectare plot and produced his first vintage from it in 2019. Only 800 bottles are produced each year. The dagala sits at 800 metres with soils of deep volcanic ash and pebbles. This wine is intensely floral with hints not only of red flowers but violets and wild herbs, too. It is very structured, almost li

Massolino Barolo DOCG MAGNUM 2021
What a way to start DOCG Barolo!

Nebbiolo from Castiglione Falletto, Barolo

Massolino Barolo DOCG MAGNUM 2021

First produced in 1911, the fruit for Massolino’s classic cuvée is selected from seven sites across roughly seven hectares of prime-sited Serralunga vineyards. The most important of these sites—Briccolina, Collareto, Broglio and Le Turne—are dotted around the town itself (Le Turne borders Margheria, while Collareto lies next to Vigna Rionda)—so we are talking quality real estate. The 2021 also includes a little declassified fruit from Massolino’s Parussi Cru. Vine age varies from 10 t

Pinot Noir from Savigny-lès-Beaune, Côte du Beaune

Domaine Tollot-Beaut Grand Cru ‘Corton-Bressandes’ 2019

"As it usually is, this is at once more elegant and a bit more aromatically complex with its agreeably spicy mix of red and dark cherry, warm earth and floral top note. Here too there is excellent volume to the delicious medium weight flavors that possess both fine verve and minerality, both of which carry over to the balanced and beautifully persistent finale. This isn't as powerful as the Corton but it's notably finer. A qualitative choice." Drink: 2034+ Sweet spotAllen Meadows, Burghound

Pinot Noir from Morey-Saint-Denis, Côte-de-Nuits

Stéphane Magnien Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru ‘Les Faconnières’ 2022

There's a great purity & vibrancy to Magnien's wines. His Faconnières is superb! This is even more floral-suffused with its elegant, cool and airy aromas of mostly red and dark pinot fruit that is nuanced by hints of spice and earth. The delicious and intensely mineral-driven larger-scaled flavors also brim with sappy dry extract that serves to buffer the firm tannic spine shaping the powerful and lingering finish where the only nit is a hint of backend warmth. Pinot Noir from Gevrey-Chambertin, Côte-de-Nuits

Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru ‘Mes Cinq Terroirs’ 2020

This is Mortet’s ‘super Gevrey’ and comes from a clutch of five brilliantly placed plots that Denis Mortet deliberately chose for the quality of their terroirs and vines. The vineyards include En Motrot, situated between the church and Château de Gevrey-Chambertin close to Clos Saint-Jacques; Au Vellé, very close-by under Petits Cazetiers; Combe-du-Dessus, situated at the top of the Brochon slope just north-east of Gevrey itself; En Champs directly below Gevrey’s 1er Cru Champeaux (the

Pinot Noir from Gevrey-Chambertin, Côte-de-Nuits

Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru ‘Mes Cinq Terroirs’ 2022

"The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin "Mes Cinq Terroirs" comes from the north of the appellation and includes one-third of whole bunches due to the acidity being lower than the Marsannay. It has a beautiful bouquet like last year, pure with raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, superb mineralité and vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with dark berry fruit, Earl Grey and light tertiary scents, very cohesive with a persistent finish. This should age extremely well in bottle." Neal Martin, Vinous 92-94

Pinot Noir from Gevrey-Chambertin, Côte-de-Nuits

Domaine Louis Boillot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru ‘Champonnet’ 2017

An equally restrained nose combines both upper and lower register elements that include red cherry and pomegranate with those of plum, earth and forest floor. There is notably better concentration, power and punch to the broad-shouldered flavors that possess evident muscularity and minerality on the compact and serious finale that delivers sneaky good length. A Gevrey 1er of relative refinement. ♥ OutstandingAllen Meadows
