Pinot Noir from Gippsland, Victoria

Bass Phillip Premium Pinot Noir 2024

"This 2024 Premium Pinot Noir has a strong whole bunchy feel with beautifully composed layers of dark cherry and woody herbs with a lining of Szechuan pepper and licorice. Complex and a little wild showing strong meaty, earthy and cola tones. Most notable is the firm structure thanks to chewy tannins and vibrant, balanced acidity which builds to a strong finish. A wine built with cellaring in mind. 2030-2040."Angus Hughson, Wine Pilot 94 Points HH 97

Nebbiolo from Barbaresco, Piedmont

Roagna Barbaresco Faset 2013

In 2013 Roagna began a collaboration with the owner of the historic vineyard Faset in Barbaresco. 2013 was our first year of production. Faset is a historic cru, close to Asili and the Rocche di Barbaresco which produces incredibly elegant wines. This little parcel is South West exposed. Receives the same vineyard work, 60 days […]

Roagna Barolo del Comune di Barolo 2013

About Roagna Reading Roagna’s manifesto with my Vigneron’s cap on, it’s clear that they are driven to achieve excellence. In many ways, their approach reminds me of Yarra Yering. Pushing the boundaries with so many aspects of viticulture and winemaking, taking calculated risks, that, when successful, result in what are undoubtedly some of the best […]

Pinot Noir from Chambolle-Musigny, Côte-de-Nuits

Laurent Ponsot Chambolle-Musigny Cuvée de la Violette 2016

Check out Burghound's review! Laurent Ponsot has farmed a tiny 0.31 of a hectare in Chambolle since 2002. The Domaine Ponsot bottling was called Cuvée des Cigales and, in spite of our protestations, the wine from this vineyard has never made the trip to Australia—until now. Burghound must have tasted this at a different stage to us as what we encountered was a beautifully rich and layered red Chambolle that was at the same time classically detailed and floral, yet with the opulence and text

Grenache from Châteauneuf du Pape, Southern Rhône

Domaine Pierre Usseglio Châteauneuf-du-Pape ‘Reserve des 2 Frères’ 2015

Half aged in new and used barriques, 25 percent in new and used demi-muids and the rest in concrete tanks. Opaque ruby. A complex, expansive bouquet evokes ripe dark berries, candied flowers, vanilla and woodsmoke, and a suave Indian spice nuance builds in the glass. Broad and seamless in the mouth, offering deeply concentrated blackberry, cherry cola and violet pastille flavors and a sweetening mocha flourish. Closes extremely long and sappy; smooth, sneaky tannins shape the lush dark fruit.

Nebbiolo from Verduno, Barolo

Fratelli Alessandria Barolo ‘Monvigliero’ 2017

The 2017 Barolo Monvigliero marries the raciness of the year with the floral lift and elegance of this great Verduno site. More than anything, the 2017 is a Barolo of pure and total sensuality. Even so, there is more than enough tannin to allow the 2017 to drink well for many years to come. It is very clearly one of the wines of the vintage. The rich, substantial finish is a thing of real beauty.Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Nebbiolo from Verduno, Barolo

Fratelli Alessandria Barolo ‘Monvigliero’ 2018

'The 2018 Barolo Monvigliero is broad, ample and so expressive, all while showing the finesse and classicism that are such a signature of this wine. All elements are so well balanced in a Barolo that speaks to harmony above all else. Sweet red cherry, cedar, orange peel, tobacco and cinnamon give the 2018 tons of aromatic presence. Best of all, the 2018 will drink well with minimal cellaring. It's a gorgeous wine in every way.'Antonio Galloni, Vinous 95 Points

Nebbiolo from Monforte d'Alba, Barolo

E. Pira (Chiara Boschis) Barolo ‘Mosconi’ 2019

The 2019 Barolo Mosconi is the most potent of the three Barolos in the range. It exudes Monforte darkness and virile intensity from the very first taste. Black cherry, plum, mocha, sage, tar, lavender and spice infuse the 2019 with tons of character. This is one of the most elegant wines I have ever tasted from Mosconi, a site that does not naturally lend itself to finesse.Antonio Galloni, Vinous 98 Points

Pinot Noir from Pommard, Côte du Beaune

Domaine Alex Moreau Pommard 1er Cru ‘Les Fremiers’ 2022

This possesses the most floral-suffused nose in the range with its pretty liqueur-like aromas of various red berries, soft earth and a hint of crushed anise. There is excellent volume to the caressing and seductively textured flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the youthfully austere, firm and compact finale. Like the Caillerets, this needs more depth so at least some patience is in order.Allen Meadows, Burghound 90-92 Points

Nebbiolo from Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

Giovanni Rosso Ester Canale Rosso Barolo Langhe Nebbiolo 2021

This is the replanted portion of Vigna Rionda, stil too young to be worthy of the Barolo classification. The 2019 was awarded 98 Points by the Wine Doctor.Crafted by Davide Rosso and Andrea Delpiano from their Serralunga d’Alba estate vineyards. The purity of expression of nebbiolo is breathtaking, and while many of us will find it challenging to wait, these are wines of considerable ageing potential.

Pinot Noir from Volnay, Côte du Beaune

Domaine de la Pousse d’Or Volnay 1er Cru ‘Clos de la Bousse d’Or’ 2022

A perfumed and exceptionally pretty, elegant and pure nose speaks of wafting essence of red berries, especially cherry, along with exotic spice and floral wisps. I very much like the texture of the beautifully refined middleweight flavors that exude a fine bead of minerality on the bitter pit fruit-inflected finish that displays excellent length. This could use better depth but that should only be a matter of patience. 2034+ ♥ Sweet spot OutstandingAllen Meadows, Burghound  (91-94) Point
