“Dark Ruby. Fresh cherry, dark berries, pungent flowers and hints of musky earth and garrigue on the fragrant nose. Pliant and expansive on the palate, offering juicy red and dark berry, candied violet and baking spice flavors and a hint of mocha that adds appealing sweetness. Finishes long and gently chewy, with well-knit tannins and lingering spiciness.”Josh Raynolds, Vinous 92 Points, WS 93
Nebbiolo from Adelaide Hills, South Australia
Now in it’s 18th year of life! A fascinating comparison with the other vintages. Showing beautiful natural acidity, a finer line of tannin, with wonderful development, it is one that could still do with a few more years for the acid to find the equilibrium point and for it to uncoil. Although I suspect a fatty piece of protein would have a symbiotic relationship with this. The wine cleansing the food & the food bringing the balance. On first tasting I paired it the tuna and salmon sush
Nebbiolo from Adelaide Hills, South Australia
Now in it’s 16th year of life! The 2008 is the most structured of the trilogy. Remarkable freshness for a 2008. Seriously impressive secondary development with a superb core of sweet, yet certainly not over the top fruit. Very complete with plush long fine tannins. A fine example of beautifully matured Nebbiolo.Wonderful acid – tannin complex, mouth coating, nutty, even long. Savoury, earthy, hints of tabacco, and leather as a faint sophisticated perfume dancing over the top. Forest floo
Red Blend from Radda UGA, Chianti Classico
Monteraponi 2024 CC takes after its name with a classical, elegant style. Fine with juicy acid, bright red fruit, deftly handled tannins with playful grip. Lovely bit of spice and perhaps a little stalk tannin. Thirst quenching mid-week Pizza wine well and truly sorted! A little earthy and savoury. Playful now. Another couple of years and it will add dimensions and build a little generosity for added pleasure.95% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo. As a winemaker watching the photo movie below I get
Pinot Noir from Pommard, Côte du Beaune
Maison Dieu is the name of an actual lieu-dit situated in Pommard but Violot chooses to employ the term cuvée anyway; in the period prior to 1937 this well-situated parcel was declared as Pommard rather than Bourgogne“Ripe aromas of red berries, plum and plenty of earth lead to voluminous and very rich middle weight flavors that possess a seductive texture before concluding in a clean, refreshing and only mildly rustic finale.” Burghound
Well, here's something a little bit tasty. 17+ year old Rioja and in fine form. Access to gear with a little age on it is a treat! Urbina Reserva Especial 2006 is one of those wines that you can just nuzzle into, calming, reassuring, delicious.Plush, luscious, super fine, long tannins wrap a core of vibrant, ripe fruit layered with savoury, earthy, truffles and tea. A saline lick matching fine acid to give us a fresh, thirst-quenching wine. The complexity and secondary development here offer
Tempranillo from Alavesa, La Rioja
Moving into a more blue fruited profile over the 2022 Artuke 'Paso Las Mãnas', plush long even mouthfeel, nutty ripe tannins, a little savoury play. Beautifully balanced with super fine long acid. A faint lick of oak tannin adding evenness to the tannin profile. 100% Temp from 750-800mm ASL. Plenty more to come as this builds and lengthen with time. A nice step commensurate with the coin. The 2022 Paso Las Mañas was selected from the 3.9 hectares of Tempranillo and has similar parameter
Mencia from Bierzo, Castilla y León
Boldest, most immediately generous of this set of 2022's. Red and blue fruited. Carries through to the palate. Building in the glass. Friendly, so easy to drink. Deceptively, less cerebral than the Pico. Great transparency. Seamless and plenty of fun.Paul Kaan, Wine DecocdedI love the elegant, floral and nuanced nose of the 2022 El Rapolao, sourced from a plot in the coldest part of the village, where the soils are rich in iron and organic matter. It fermented with 25% full clusters
Mencia from Bierzo, Castilla y León
Super expressive, elegant & complex. Nose is complete and intoxicating out of the gate (tasted form a bottle under Coravin for a month). Great drinking flow shape and expression. The tannin and flavour from the stalk work adds interest. Delicacy with refinement. Savoury with licorice and spice playing with woody herbs, baking spice. Edge of grip that intrigues. Perfumed. Vibrant with a wonderful core of fruit. Earthy, forest floor & truffles at play. A lot to love here. Paul Kaa
Sangiovese from Montalcino, Tuscany
Rosso doing it right! Fuligni's 'Ginestreto' is beautifully poised. Ever so devourable this is classic Sangio! Excellent. True to the Fuligni style, perhaps with an extra bit of complexity for the wine at this stage of its life. A wonderful core of fruit. This is more in the mold of a baby Brunello than a playful Rosso. Plush, with fine tannins, generous mid-palate and great length. The build in complexity with layers of intrigue, from earthy almost truffled pops. Long delicious. Plump and vital
