The richest of the 1ers! Richer and more out to play there’s plenty of fruit drive here. Honeyed, a little nutty with maple at play, crème patissere. Generosity from this warmer site is tempered by a line of acid. That long ferment mid-palate with a little baking spice, pop of cracked yeast. Long.

Bindi Original Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

Pinot Noir | Victoria, Australia

So silky and fine. The 2022 Original Vineyard spent 15 months in French barrels (one third new) and was bottled in mid July. This wine comes from our 1988 planting. The 2022 is super pure in red cherry, raspberry and ripe strawberry aromas. It is typically floral and gently spicy, a little savoury and very seductive. The palate is fresh, creamy, savoury, has fine tannins driving the supple and smooth fruit and flows beautifully long. It is very delicious. Michael D Limit 1

What a way to start DOCG Barolo!

Massolino Barolo DOCG 2019

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Italy

Diam. First produced in 1911, the fruit for Massolino’s classic cuvée is selected from seven sites across roughly seven hectares of prime-sited Serralunga vineyards. The most important of these sites—Briccolina, Collareto, Broglio and Le Turne—are dotted around the town itself (Le Turne borders Margheria, while Collareto lies next to Vigna Rionda)—so we are talking quality real estate. The 2019 also includes a little declassified fruit from Massolino’s Parussi Cru. Vine age varies fro

The only white ‘Grand Cru’ that Marco makes. Unlike Terre Nere's Etna Bianco DOC, which is made up of a blend of 5 white grapes, the “Vigne Niche” selection is only Carricante. Complete. Seamless, fine, delicious, flowing, complex. beautifully developed fruit with such finely textured, refreshing acidity. A great way to finish a divine set of white contrade from Marco. With a bouquet like chiseling through sheer limestone with all of the smoky and flinty nuances that come wit

Domaine Testut Chablis 1er Cru ‘Forêt’ 2019

Chardonnay | France, Burgundy

Excellent drinking. Drink this while you wait for the Grenouille to build. Line, length, texture, with a sufficient generosity giving it approachability in youth without adding any of the clumsy bits. Classic, delicious, delicate. Wonderful élévage making for a complete wine. 0.20 ha of 80 year-old vines, the same age as Beugnons. Only replaced with massale selections. A pure and elegant nose features notes of citrus zest, mineral reduction, iodine and hints of algae. There is again

From a huge 3.5 ha holding that is composed by <75% Vaillons proper with the remainder from Roncières, Mélinots and Châtains. Derived from old vines in Les Minots (that are a source for the Fèvre massale selection), as well as holdings in Roncières and Chatains, the 2020 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons unwinds in the glass with notes of white flowers, crisp stone fruit and clear honey. Medium to fullbodied, satiny and enveloping, it’s a beautifully vibrant, racy wine that concludes wit

Barale Barolo del Commune di Barolo 2019

Nebbiolo | Italy, Barolo

The 2018 is an impressive wine. Equally the 2019 has lovely flow, gently building a beautiful mid-weight wine of harmony and sophistication. Simply so easy to devour. A light dusting of delicate mid-palate tannin. Sour cherry, a lick of cocoa, savoury with a little salty blood. Divine. Lovely perfume, beautifully developed whilst retaining excellent energy and freshness. The fruit for this wine comes from Castellero, Preda and Coste di Rose  in the Commune of Barolo. ***Due 2nd Half August

The name of this appellation comes from Mont de Lieu which marks the border between Burgundy and Champagne, illustrated by a marker stone dividing the two duchies which can be found on its summit. With a double exposure moving from south to southeast facing, this terroir benefits from a higher average temperature and more sunshine than the other Premiers Crus. The 2019 Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu unwinds in the glass with notions of orange oil, clear honey, beeswax and white flowers. M

I first had the junior wine of this back in 1994 while studying winemaking in Adelaide. Over the decades it has become more refined. A great expression of Barbera. Those in the know will tell you that good vineyards planted to Barbera in Asti will beat the bounty of average sites that have been planted to the variety in Alba. "The 2021 Barbera d'Asti La Crena is exceptional. Bright, red-toned fruit, chalk, mint, white pepper and rose petal are all beautifully delineated. In recent times V

2010! That's Right!

Giovanni Sordo Barolo 2010

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Here’s a wine that it pays to know the inside story. Many of you know Sordo currently has 8 Cru wines with more in the pipeline. The two most recent additions have been their Monprivato and Villero. Although they have had worked with the vineyards and fruit for decades they haven’t bottled them individually. So where did the fruit end up? In 2010 it ended up right here in the Barolo Classico and it shows! The La Morra portion, the majority is Galina. With fruit from the likes of Scarrone

The 2020 Chablis 1er Cru Les Lys is also especially good this year, delivering aromas of white flowers, citrus oil, freshly baked bread and bee pollen. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with a fleshy core of fruit and racy girdling acids, this cool, marl-rich site has evidently excelled in 2020.
