Sangiovese from Radda UGA, Chianti Classico
Damn! My note is almost identical to the 2020!Radda is one of the cooler parts of Chianti Classico, as with the 2020, Sean has done the 2021 justice. Dominated by dark fruits with a pop of fresh red fruits layered with stalk spices & a little earthiness. There’s harmony & flow in this seamless elegant Chianti. Finishing with a fine sweep of bitterness that cleanses, followed by lingering flavours and a fine refreshing line of acid.A certain delicacy. The fine long tannins wi

Long fine delicious.Honest wines made by farmers of stone fruit & grapes with bloody good palatesGalets are pebbles, the vineyard is covered
For all the many great things that can be told about Giacosa’s red wines, it is the Arneis that maybe typifies the great qualities of Bruno Giacosa the man. In the early 1970’s, this was an indigenous variety almost entirely lost to the region’s obsession with red wines (at the time mainly Dolcetto) that was ‘rediscovered’ by Alfredo Currado of Vietti and Giacosa very shortly after. The two are almost solely responsible for Arneis’ current importance in the region, especially in Roer
Red Blend from La Rioja, Spain
The 2012 Viña Tondonia Reserva comes from a very dry year, with 25% less rain than the average (at the time), resulting in lower yields of very healthy grapes that delivered wines with nice balance between alcohol and polyphenols, making it very apt for the aging in barrel. It had a slightly longer élevage in barrel, six years. The wine is aromatic with a developed profile, spicy and tertiary (forest floor, a touch of brick dust and iodine), complex and nuanced. The palate is full and round, w
Red Blend from La Rioja, Spain
The 2013 Reserva Viña Tondonia is a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha and 10% Graciano and Mazuelo, grown in the calcareous soils of the Tondonia meander in Rioja Alta. Aged extensively in American oak, it offers restrained black fruit, wild herbs, balsamic hints and sweet spices with gentle cedar and vanilla notes. Medium-bodied with chalky grip and a layered, tertiary finish, this is a benchmark classic-refined, enduring and unmistakably Tondonia. Tasted May 2025 Drink 2025-2055
Nebbiolo from Monforte d'Alba, Barolo
Trying Langhe Neb's made with fruit from just one Commune is a great way to dial into the characteristics of that Commune The Langhe Nebbiolo is a the perfect intro to the Nebbiolo range from Alessandria.“Prinsiòt”, a Piedmontese dialect noun that means little princes, it’s the historical nickname given to our family by the inhabitants of Verduno. This Nebbiolo, that takes origin in the vineyards “Sotto Orti”, “Campasso” and “Neirane” all in Verduno. The 2020 is taug
Nebbiolo from Neive, Barbaresco
The 'Side Project' of ex-Bruno Giacosa's winemaker Francesco Versio! Baby Barbaresco anyone? Simply delicious. Shows exceptional touch. Fresh, energetic with a delicacy matched to an intoxicating perfume underpinned by vibrant red fruits, complexing earthing, licorice, sour cherry and a little woody herb. Perfectly balanced this is stunning and ridiculous for the coin. The Francesco Versio 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo shows terrific balance (and great value) with plenty of wild berry fruit and fr
Dolcetto from Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo
Unlike the Barbera d’Alba ‘Falletto’, the Dolcetto d’Alba ‘Falletto’ does not come from the true Falletto di Serralunga d’Alba vineyard but from the North-facing vineyards surrounding it. These sites came as part of the acquisition of Falletto in the 1980’s and were already planted to Dolcetto. Being from the poor helvetian soil of Serralunga d’Alba, the Dolcetto ‘Falletto’ is an impressively structured wine with plentiful tannin and a darker fruit profile. Many of B
Nebbiolo from Monforte d'Alba, Barolo
Trying Langhe Neb's made with fruit from just one Commune is a great way to dial into the characteristics of that Commune The 2021 makes it 4 years in a row that this wine has performed well above its standing. The consistency Fratelli Alessandria are achieving here is impressive. All of the great Verduno makers speak of the perfume and spice that are the hallmark of the Commune. Both are here in spades. Plush, ultra-fine tannins are beautifully weighted against hyper-vital red and blue fruits a
