Stunning immediate red fruits, wicked acid and epic long, even structured tannin. Serralunga to a T. Pun intended, for it has fine black tea aroma and flavours. As only the second vintage of 890 I've tried I was immediately struck by the contrast the 2011 has compared with the 2010. Share a glass with the importer, he remarked that the 2011 is a more typical vintage for the 890. While 2010 presented with a richness and generosity, the 2011 has the hallmarks of a great Claret. Vibrant fruit with a subtle underlying lacing of oak, building in the glass, fruit slowly shining through. A fine line of acid adds to the impression of delicacy and restraint. Low

A parcel of Arione has been earmarked for Monfortino in 2015, giving a strong indication of the quality of the site! The first release in this stellar vintage of this wine which is an expression of the section of Arione that falls outside of the region of Barolo. Made in exactly the same way as Roberto’s Barolo, with slightly less aging, this wine is so very pretty. Pretty, red fruit. Beautifully developed. Impeccable élévage. An underlying tar/leather/slate notes layering in intriguing complexity. The Vietti crew have built quite a lot of structure into this Ravera of Novello. A wonderful example of Ravera making for a very complex iteration. Lovely generosity. Fine plush Neb tannin. Nebbiolo from Barbaresco, Piedmont
The 2022 Barbaresco is a pretty rich, heady wine. Dark cherry/plum fruit, cloves, licorice and mocha build as the 2022 shows o its considerable depth. This is one of the few 2022s that is quite resonant texturally. The aromatics could be more lifted and the tannins could use a bit more polish, but those qualities were next to impossible to come by in 2022.
