Well colour me Nebbiolo! This is one of THOSE wines! Complete, poised, flowing, filled with personality, an acid-tannin complex that gives vitality & is perfectly weighted against layered fruit of considerable length. The tannins are ripe, nutty & present with a proper level of Barolo grip. It draws you in whispering "DRINK ME!". A pleasure to devour in its youth. This wine is priced above Pur Sang these days, indicating how highly the Domaine rates the vineyard and the wine. Buisson Renard is a cool mid-slope terroir on the southwest side of the Saint-Andelain hill and the soils are a mixture of clay and flint (or silex). Excellent generosity, savoury with a rich core of perfumed fruit and fine, elegant tannin. Mostly sand in the vineyards of Bussia here. Plush, blood red fruit mix with a pinch of baking spice. Chocolatey fanning out generously. Only 13 times since 1978. Consistency of weather throughout the year the key. A welcoming wine with great finesse. It's a demonstration of just how different the terroirs of Monforte are, justifying the work being done to break it down into a more granular set of MGAs.
