Boillot has always done a remarkable job with this vineyard and 2016 will only add to that track record. There is gorgeous complexity to the fresh and notably ripe red berry fruit, humus and pungent earth scented nose. The succulent, dense and powerful broad-shouldered flavors brim with copious dry extract that mostly manages to buffer the very firm tannic spine on the superbly long finish that flashes just a trace of Nuits style rusticity. This very serious and built-to-age effort is breathtaki

Àlvaro Palacios ‘Finca Dolfi’ 2017

Garnacha | Spain, Catalunya

I had the pleasure of devouring the 2016 about 6 months ago over an aged scotch fillet with a friend. A wine of presence and importance. Along with the other Priorats I've had from Àlvaro it's clear he's got it right in both the vineyard and the winery. After all, to make a wine like the legendary L'Ermita you need mad skills! The single-vineyard 2017 Finca Dofí comes from ten hectares that were planted 20 years ago in the village of Gratallops. It’s mostly Garnacha with 8% Cari

On the day tasting all of the 2021 Barolos side by side the Clerico 'Ciabot Mentin' and the Barolo di Monforte were drinking the best. The joy of wine and the quality of the full range will see any of exceptional 2021's be called WOTN over time! Exceptional depth and length, the 'Ciabot Mentin' is an epic wine with stunning tannins. Alpine spice. Fresh with so much power yet elegance. Like Pajana I can’t wait to see this fully resolved and build complexity. Even on the day it was building in t

“The 2021 Pommard 1er Cru Les Croix Noires is terrific, bursting with aromas of wild plums, dark berries, warm spices and vanilla pod. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with an almost unctuous core of fruit that reflects the low yields of the vintage, underpinned by sweet, powdery tannins, it's built for the long haul.” William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 94 Points JM 91-93

“A high point of the range is the 2019 Pommard 1er Cru Les Croix Noires, a terrific wine that unfurls in the glass with complex aromas of raspberries, plums, raw cocoa, sweet spices, licorice and grilled squab. Medium to full-bodied, rich and layered, it's deep and multidimensional, with melting tannins and lively acids, concluding with a long, expansive finish.” William Kelley, The Wine Advocate 94 Points JM 92-94Several years after Kelley's tasted this his note remains true. Wow! A sensational Rocche. At this early stage in its life it sit with harmony, together. Expressive, a long even palate, stunning tannins that caress. The perfume is intoxicating, faded flowers of Castiglione Falletto. A superb core of fruit of exceptional length.Year in year out this is in the top 3 of Sordo 8 Barolo Crus. It looks like this year will be no different. Savoury, a little salty and earthy. This will be long lived. Beautifullly composed.

Giovanni Sordo Barolo ‘Gabutti’ MAGNUM 2019

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

A wonderful expression of Serralunga, all of the tea, slate, graphite, exceptional quality tannins, with a presence and sophistication. The firm mouthfeel of seriously good Serralunga tannins. Again such a complete wine. The nose draws you in. Begging you to drink. A darkness and energy that is palpable.Impressive gear. Precise, and pure, wearing the vineyard and commune on its sleeve. Superb fruit of depth and length. Great drinking here with much much more to come.

Domaine Tollot-Beaut Grand Cru ‘Corton-Bressandes’ 2019

Pinot Noir | Savigny-lès-Beaune, France

"As it usually is, this is at once more elegant and a bit more aromatically complex with its agreeably spicy mix of red and dark cherry, warm earth and floral top note. Here too there is excellent volume to the delicious medium weight flavors that possess both fine verve and minerality, both of which carry over to the balanced and beautifully persistent finale. This isn't as powerful as the Corton but it's notably finer. A qualitative choice." Drink: 2034+ Sweet spotAllen Meadows, Burghound

There's a great purity & vibrancy to Magnien's wines. His Faconnières is superb! This is even more floral-suffused with its elegant, cool and airy aromas of mostly red and dark pinot fruit that is nuanced by hints of spice and earth. The delicious and intensely mineral-driven larger-scaled flavors also brim with sappy dry extract that serves to buffer the firm tannic spine shaping the powerful and lingering finish where the only nit is a hint of backend warmth. Benjamin Leroux Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans 2020

Pinot Noir | Volnay, Côte du Beaune

‘Mitans’ derives from the old French for centre, and this is likely the source of the name as this Cru lies at the heart of the appellation (on the slopes beneath the village). This 0.65-hectare parcel is close to the Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Barre and encroaches into the Mitans l’Ormeau lieu-dit. The soil here is fine clay shot through with limestone, and the vines are, on average, 50 years old. Just a pinch of whole bunch this year. Les Mitans is considered one of the most elegan
