Produttori del Barbaresco Riserva 'Montefico' 2019
KO 98 AG 93+

Nebbiolo from Barbaresco, Piedmont

Produttori del Barbaresco Riserva ‘Montefico’ 2019

The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Montefico is one of the most searingly tannic wines in the range. Readers will have to be patient with the 2019, as it is going to need time. As always, Montefico is a Barbaresco built on linear intensity more than size. In 2019, the qualities are quite accented. Time in the glass opens the bouquet nicely, but the 2019 remains quite closed.Antonio Galloni, Vinous 93+ Points KO 98*NOTE Galloni tasted in Sept 2023 noting his intent to look at the PdB Riserva

Pinot Noir from Gevrey-Chambertin, Côte-de-Nuits

Domaine SC Guillard Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux 2022

‘Les Corbeaux’ is bordered one side by the Grand Cru Mazis Chambertin! Takes me to a very happy place! ‘Les Corbeaux’ is bordered one side by the Grand Cru Mazis Chambertin and the other by the village of Gevrey. The 2022 is mid to deeply coloured with juicy and vibrant fruit characters of cherry kernel, cassis, liquorice, blackberry and plum, a classy sheen of new oak frames the aromas. The tannings are super silky and fine, its really elegant and superbly balanced but as the wine op

Pinot Noir from Savigny-lès-Beaune, Côte du Beaune

Domaine des Croix Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru ‘Les Peuillets’ 2022

Again restraint and expression with excellent composure. The subtle well integrated stalk tannin and spice play with old vine freshness and elegance. Flowing with great harmony. Layered, lovely red fruit with a silkiness. A little savoury almost blood orange and pinch of salt. Straight out of the gate looking good. Rose and spice. Paul Kaan, Wine Decoded“Perfumed and suave, the 2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Peuillets reveals aromas of orange zest, plums, peonies, deep spices an

Produttori del Barbaresco Riserva ‘Ovello’ 2021

The Produttori del Barbaresco 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello shows greater richness and structure on the mid-palate, with ripe and supple flavors of red and purple fruit that give the wine an especially generous personality. This is a concentrated expression of Nebbiolo, yet it remains direct, sharp and beautifully focused, fully living up to the reputation of this highly collectible vintage. The added depth of fruit is balanced by freshness, creating a wine that is both powerful and elegantly c

Produttori del Barbaresco Riserva ‘Muncogato’ 2021

The 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Muncagota is laced with strong floral and savory notes. Brisk acids and beams of supporting tannin give the 2021 its driving, tense personality. I expect those qualities will be positives for the future, but today the Muncagota is pretty forbidding. Give this time. This is one of the most tense editions of this wine I can remember tasting. Produttori del Barbaresco Riserva ‘Pajé’ 2021

The 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Pajè is deep, dense wine. Strong spice and balsamic notes wrap around a core of dark-toned fruit. A brooding, packed powerhouse, the Pajè needs a number of years to be at its most expressive. This is classic Pajè all way, dialed up to eleven. Time in the glass brings out the wine's complex, dynamic personality and overall breadth. Trebbiano from Abruzzo, Italy

Emidio Pepe Trebbiano d’Abruzzo 2021

Wonderfully floral and complex, the 2021 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo continues to improve in bottle with a perfumed bouquet that mixes apricot with crushed almond, yellow flowers and white smoke. This soothes the palate with its enveloping textures as a tinge of candied citrus enlivens ripe green apple and melon tones. It leaves the palate completely refreshed with a spike of acidity and mineral concentration, adding a crisp feel. Although enjoyable today, the 2021 is positioned for greatness over time

Nebbiolo from Gattinara, Alto Piemonte

Antoniolo ‘San Francesco’ Gattinara Riserva DOCG 2017

The first time we’ve managed to squeeze out an allocation of ‘San Francesco’ Saint Francesco. We are very happy!Stepping up to the two single vineyards the depth and length build. Darker and brooding, a slight reductive note washes away to reveal a savoury, truffled layer over those woody herbs. Slatey with mineral acids, sitting marginally prouder than in the other 2 Riservas and tannins of balanced grip. Finishing with lingering fruit.Given a decade the acid resolves this will

Vajra Barolo ‘Bricco delle Viole’ 2021

What a wine! So complete, incredible, layered complex, beautifully perfumed with the earth, slate and undergrowth to balance it. The very definition of a complete Barolo. The acid tannin complex is impeccable. The core and length of fruit is divine. Simply so much going on. Savoury, dark, brooding this will be a special wine with time in bottle. A lacing of the finest black tea supporting exceptional tannins. There are not enough superlatives.Paul Kaan, Wine DecodedThe organic G.D. V

Nebbiolo from Novello, Barolo

Vajra Barolo ‘Ravera’ 2021

UPDATE: Here's the double cross ... This is Ravera di Novello. I interviewed Eugene Qiao of Vajra and we laughed about the same thing. I forgot to amend the note. The triple cross is that Eugene informed me that the particular part of Ravera in Novella where their holding are has different soils that are much closer to the Ravera in Monforte than in Novello. I was making my note based on the structure looking a little more like Monforte! On the back of drinking all the 2021 Clerico's from

Produttori del Barbaresco Riserva ‘Asili’ 2017

The Produttori del Barbaresco 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is distinguished by its extremely linear and direct approach with wild rose, cassis and lots of mineral or crushed stone. The wine is taut and fresh on the palate with a medium-lean texture and lots of depth and persistence. I love those bright rose petal-like nuances on the close of this wine, and the tannins are firm and silky. This bottle boasts a unique identity in this group of Riservas.Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate

Produttori del Barbaresco Riserva ‘Pora’ 2017

The 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Pora (with 13,333 bottles released) is usually the first wine I taste each year when I review this set of Riservas from Produttori del Barbaresco. That's because it usually appears as the most delicate, and the intensity of each successive bottle increases after this one. But these schematics are a bit more difficult to align in a hot and dry vintage such as this that produced richer and more succulent fruit across the board. The Pora is redolent of red and purple fru
