The 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Rio Sordo marries finesse and power. Open-knit aromatics make a strong first impression. Layered and resonant in the glass, with tons of supporting structure, the Rio Sordo is going to need a few years to come into its own. Crushed rose petal, cedar, spice and tobacco lend notable finesse. The 2021 needs time, but it's got the goods. White Blend from Soave, Veneto
A remarkable wine 15 years in the making! Calvarino 5 is the first wine of the "Vini dell'Anima" collection. Born from a project by Leonildo Pieropan and his sons Dario and Andrea, it is a blend of five Calvarino vintages (2008-2009-2010-2011-2012) aged for at least 10 years in large cement tanks on lees in the cellar. Ageing this way in Pieropan's cool cellars is slow and controlled. This is a fascinating wine highlighting the incredible results blending across vintages can deliver.Cool

The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is powerful, savory and intensely linear, in classico Ovello style, and yet it appears to have enough fruit behind its imposing tannins to develop well over the coming years. The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Montefico is one of the most searingly tannic wines in the range. Readers will have to be patient with the 2019, as it is going to need time. As always, Montefico is a Barbaresco built on linear intensity more than size. In 2019, the qualities are quite accented.
