Pinot & Chardonnay have undergone a massive revolution in Australia over the last 20 years. On the back of experience with the varieties, and, vine age giving greater depth, length, and finer texture. We are seeing good vineyards, like Yabby Lake, making some of the best Pinot and Chardonnay’s we’ve seen in Aus.

The 2015 Single Vineyard Pinot cleaned up at the Royal Queensland wine show. Tasting it side by side with the Block wines from 2015 you can see why they command the extra coin. The 2012 Block 1 Pinot won the Jimmy Watson, the first Pinot to do it.
The Block wines are only released on average once every two years. I can give you the hot tip, there won’t be any 2016’s!
Vine age, a strong team in the vineyard and continuity in the winery too has seen the level of refinement in these wines lift over the years.
Ongoing investment in a new winery and kit like Bucher’s super exy oscilator destemmer / grape sorter, that gentle removes whole berries from the bunch and, large oak cuves that help maintain even temperatures during fermentation and freshness post fermentation are making little differences that are helping take the wines to the next level.
