Vosne-Romanée

“Bourgogne has produced nothing better than this little corner where all her charms come together”. So wrote Gaston Roupnel Burgundian author, celebrated historian of the French countryside. This “central pearl in Bourgogne’s necklace” harbours fabled Grands Crus: Romanée-Conti, Romanée Saint Vivant, La Romanée, La Tâche, La Grande Rue, Richebourg, and, in the neighbouring commune of Flagey-Échezeaux, Échezeaux and
Grands Échezeaux. Close to this paradise, the appellation Village Vosne-Romanée and its Premiers Crus express the Pinot Noir grape at its heavenly best.

Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret Richebourg Grand Cru 2019

Pinot Noir | Vosne-Romanée, France

"The 2019 Richebourg Grand Cru has turned out brilliantly, offering up a complex bouquet of cherries, berries and plums mingled with oriental spices, rich soil tones, rose petals and blood orange. Full-bodied, velvety and layered, it's muscular and concentrated, with huge reserves of fruit that largely conceal its broad-shouldered chassis of ripe, velvety tannins. Long and penetrating, this is the high point of Vincent Mongeard's portfolio this year." William Kelley, The Wine Advocate &nbs

Domaine Nicole Lamarche ‘La Grande Rue’ Grand Cru 2020

Pinot Noir | Vosne-Romanée, Burgundy

Sometimes when your vineyard is surround that's OK especially when it's surrounded by DRC! A more expressive nose freely offers up exceptionally pretty aromas that include the exuberantly spicy essence of various red berries, sandalwood and an interesting hint of orange pekoe tea. The richer but not as tightly wound medium weight flavors possess a borderline creamy mid-palate while the hugely long finish is youthfully austere but impeccably well-balanced. In a word, excellent. Here too the nose is overtly floral in character though relative to the Les St. Georges the dark berry fruit aromas are much more exotic and spicier. The sleekly muscular, intense and broad-shouldered flavors possess outstanding mid-palate density and power before culminating in a robust, firmly structured and wonderfully complex finale where the only reproach is a touch of warmth. This is a rich and classically styled Richebourg that is very definitely built-to-age as it should be. Drink: 2036+
