Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino 2018

Sangiovese | Tuscany, Italy

There is something here that takes Sangiovese to a special place, the perfume, the lovely linear shape of fruit, that deceptive depth and length that builds! Poggio di Sotto hits it out the ballpark once again with an extremely elegant interpretation that shows the incredible depth and nuance Sangiovese can achieve, even in an uneven vintage such as this. The certified organic 2018 Brunello di Montalcino reveals a dark ruby hue and mid-weight concentration. Indeed, the wine is lighter and bright

'Of these new releases from this benchmark estate, the Casanova di Neri 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto is my favorite wine. This Riserva is larger than life with ripe fruit, raspberry, cherry, spice, cola, root beer, mesquite and cedar. The wine offers a flashy and generous quality of fruit that unfolds over time with a multifaceted and multi-layered presentation. One thing that stands out here is the acidity that is bracing and tart at first but then succumbs to an important supporting

Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve MAGNUM 2020

Sangiovese | Tuscany, Chianti Classico

‘The 2020 Flaccianello della Pieve is a blend of Fontodi's vineyards, mostly three main vineyards planted on sites with very dense, heavy rocks. Dark, pliant and inviting, the 2020 is so expressive today. Black cherry, plum, spice, lavender, licorice and mocha are seamless in the glass. The 2020 is a fine Flaccianello with a bright future. Most of this blend is sourced from three parcels in upper hillside vineyards close to town center. The 2020 spent a year and a half in barrique (40% new) an

Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino 2019

Sangiovese | Tuscany, Italy

There is something here that takes Sangiovese to a special place, the perfume, the lovely linear shape of fruit, that deceptive depth and length that builds! Dusty roses, worn leather, dried strawberries and arid earth form a classic bouquet as the dynamic 2019 Brunello di Montalcino blossoms in the glass. This is feminine yet deep and textural, with ripe plums and black cherries motivated by brisk acidity. Violet inner florals and licorice hints form toward the close. The 2019 leaves a salty mi

Marchese Antinori Solaia Toscana IGT 2018

Red Blend | S.Casciano Val de Pesa, Italy

This is going to be a fascinating vintage to follow at Antinori. There are so many Super Tuscans made from Bordeaux varieties that do my head in. Somehow, they just don't get it right. Solaia is not one of them. Antinori kick out some exceptional vino under this label! They continue to push and build silky tannins and finesse into the mouthfeel, with a focus on energy and vibrancy over the last few years. Seems everyone else agrees with me on this one too! Antinori have added another

Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore DOC MAGNUM 2019

Bordeaux Blend | Bolgheri, Italy

Ornellaia is undoubtedly the refined lady of the estate. The reviews for the 2019 are full of superlatives. Hope to get a little of this in a glass soon. For a long time I was unconvinced wines made from French varieties made in Italy. One wine stands out as changing my mind, 1990 Ornellaia, thanks Lou! Beautifully balanced and poised it was poured at an open wine night where the only criterion was that it had to be bloody good! 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, 3% C
