Figli Luigi Oddero Barolo 2019

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

A blend of fruit from 30% the plush La Morra Rive, 30% the flowing tannins of Castiglione Falletto’s Scarrone, & 40% structural acid-driven Serralunga vineayrds of Baudana & Broglio. Wonderfully fine tannins and core of fruit. A beautiful core of fruit, long fine excellent transparency. Delicate and beautiful. Earthy, truffled, an underlayer of perfume. Tasting the 2020 Langhes, 2019 Barbaresco Rombone, 2019 Barolo and the singular 2019 Rocche Rivera there is a thread of sophistica

Figli Luigi Oddero Barolo 2016

Oddero Barolo ‘Villero’ 2015

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Dark and brooding give it time and watch it blossom! Take the Barolo add 3 more layers for aroma, flavour and tannin. Ramp up the sophistication of the mouthfeel and you're kinda close to where the Villero sits. Dark and brooding give it time and watch it blossom! Awesome side by side with Sordo's Villero, very different in style but both fantastic wines. A couple left then pre-order for January arrival.

Sucked one of these back beginning of April 2022. Cracked, decanted for around 3 hours, dranks over a couple. It just kept getting better and better in the glass, incredible harmony, those faded flowers of Castiglione Falletto, fine long tannins, perfectly balanced with flavours that lingered long after the last drop was gone. Excellent layering of secondary characters. Just superb! Everything you'd expect from a strong year of Rocche di Castiglione. This is such a great opportunity to loo

Sordo's Parussi always sits on the bolder side for the Cru, which it turns out has split soil types. Theirs being on soils more similar to those of Serralunga. The resulting structure shows in the wine. The 2008 is drinking beautifully, showing darker fruits and like the other 2008 Sordos seamless, with exceptional harmony and balance. This is such a great opportunity to look at different Crus in a horizontal from one producer! Matured Barolo straight from the cellars of Sordo ... Bring It

Giovanni Sordo Barolo ‘Villero’ 2019

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Superb! An excellent Villero. Complete, pure, elegant, refined, such harmony in its youth bodes well for a little something special with the passage of time. The first time I had Sordo’s Villero was the 2015 and it blew my mind. 2013, 2016, 2017 followed. All superb. The 2019 is right up there. Seriously good. Right now across all the 2019's the acid sits marginally proud. For wines of this calibre I'm stoked to see the balance where it’s at in their youth. In just a few years it will r

Cavallotto Barolo ‘Bricco Boschis’ 2017

Nebbiolo | Castiglione Falletto, Italy

Focused, pure, without interference of oak, complex, considered élévage. Wine of great expression and vibrancy. “The 2017 Barolo Bricco Boschis is superb. A rush of crushed raspberry, rose petals, mint, sweet spice and blood orange gives the 2017 its effusive, sexy personality. Medium in body and exceptionally polished, the 2017 is an absolute jewel of a wine. Many 2017s are nervy and in need of time to soften, but not the Bricco Boschis. All the elements are so well-balanced. If I was going

This is an impressive beverage! There are things happening here that are very good. The textural elements: dusty, even long tannins, that are just a little bolder than the 2015 and will benefit from 3-5 years before you crack a bottle. The fading flowers are more prominent than in the classico and red fruit more dominant with excellent length and delicacy. It has wonderful development, layered complexity that you need not pick apart. Simply enjoy a wine full of personality. A consistent r

Giovanni Sordo Barolo ‘Villero’ 2015

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Incredible perfume, so much intrigue. Felt like I was drinking and exceptional Chambolle-Musigny. Line and length of tannin and acid. Such harmony, beautiful fruit. Layers of tannin and flavour, great complexity. I love this! The most ‘Burgundian’ of these 8 cru, shimmering and transparent, signalling the elegance and finesse to unfold. A beautiful and intriguing wine with those Castiglione complexities of cranberry, strawberry, cherry-skin, dried flowers and herbs. Tannins are beautifully b

Giovanni Sordo Barolo ‘Villero’ 2016

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

As tight as ... usual. Opens to quite pronounced pot-purri and some fresh-flower fragrance. Fabulously framed full palate with unevolved but full, textured, firm and forceful. Long. Seamless acid/tannin of Castiglione (and St Julien) Tight knit, this one. Wonderful. Crystal clear. Darker more broody than the 2015 which had a few more months off the boat when I first saw it. Fresh and vibrant / energetic. Bold, yet very good long, layered slatey tannins compared with the 2015. Wonderful texture h

Massolino “Parussi” Barolo 2017

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Castiglione Falletto

Massolino’s Castiglione Falletto Parussi tannins take longer to resolve than Parafada. Bordering both core soil types. Quite dense and layered. Bright red fruit with darker macerative pops. Fresh acid long. Will resolve beautifully in time.

Giovanni Sordo Barolo ‘Villero’ 2013

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

I haven't tried the 2013. If the 2015 is anything to go by this will be stunning! The most ‘Burgundian’ of these 8 cru, shimmering and transparent, signalling the elegance and finesse to unfold. A beautiful and intriguing wine with those Castiglione complexities of cranberry, strawberry, cherry-skin, dried flowers and herbs. Tannins are beautifully bound with the acid line, the finish becomes seamless and tingling. Worthy of the Villero name. Vietti's is now $900 a bottle! Dense garnet colo

Oddero Barolo ‘Rocche di Castiglione’ 2017

Nebbiolo | Castiglione Falletto, Italy

Rocche di Castiglione has to be one of my favourite Crus. The wines have incredible harmony, they are just so complete. I haven't had the chance to try this. I have devoured the 2017 Villero from just around the corner. Given Oddero's consistency through their range I'd say you're in for very safe bet here! The 2017 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a beautiful wine that captures the natural intensity of the year while maintaining the style of the site. Silky aromatic and wonderfully nua

Margherita Otto ‘M8’ Barolo 2017

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

This one's another argument for blending sites! From a disciple of Maria Theresa Mascarello. The 2017 M8 is a blend of Castiglione Falletto, Monforte & Serralunga fruit! I rarely buy wine site unseen. I did so with the 2016 M8. I couldn’t resist! The story and experience behind Allan Manley’s launch of his own venture has seen him work with a veritable who’s who of Barolo ending with Maria Theresa Mascarello where he still works. As you might expect he’s a proponent of blended Barolo vs

Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo ‘Villero’ 2018

Nebbiolo | Castiglione Falletto, Italy

Grace under pressure! Castiglione Falletto shining through with those faded flower. Excellent long tannins of substance and sophistication. A beguiling core of fruit, brooding, yet, you can see what is to come. Flow and shape. It feels very complete. Fine and long. It has that intrigue that steps it up another notch. Very good. Earthy and truffled, serious stuff. Persistence has you taking note as it dances along. Rocche di Castiglione and Villero in Castiglione Falletto consistentlly sit amo
