From Jean-Marie Guffen’s southern stonghold. First up, there is this, the Méditerranée. Source from two limestone-rich vineyards in Apt, high in the Provençal hinterland, selected, managed and harvested specifically for the rosé. The wines were fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks, on lees, for eight months, with a little saignée juice added for fruity depth. The 2015 is a sensational vintage.
Nebbiolo from Gattinara, Alto Piemonte
So pretty, floral and pleasantly sweet, the 2020 Vino Rosato Bricco Lorella makes itself known with a bouquet of peach skins and pear complemented by hints of wet stone and flowery undergrowth. This soothes with a display of ripe fruits offset by hints of candied citrus, all carried across a wave of juicy acidity. Aromas of tonka beans, spices, vanilla, grapefruit, red berries, iodine and spring flowers preface the 2022 Cotes de Provence Rose Cuvee Speciale des Vignettes from Clos Cibonne, a rosé from Provence crafted with a dominant proportion of Tibouren.
