Description

The 2016 Duemani is a powerful and explosive wine. Dark red cherry, tobacco, cedar, plum, dried flowers, leather and licorice all race out of the glass as this rich, dense Cabernet Franc shows off its personality. Aged 20 months in French oak, the 2016 is a wine of great power and density. I would prefer to drink it on the young side, to take advantage of the wine’s superb depth and intensity. This is an outstanding vintage for the Duemani.

Why is this Wine so Yummy?

Entirely Cabernet Franc: a careful selection from various parts of the vineyard, a grand expression of fruit, supple tannins and complexity. The result in the glass is superb: wild blackberries, rosemary, underbrush and Mediterranean vegetation. A sumptuous balance and an impressive length.

In the Vineyard

Altitude: 220-250 meters (720-820 feet) above sea level
Training system: Guyot
Planting density: 8400 vines per hectare (3400 vines per acre)
Vine Age: Planted 2001.

Soils of limestone origin, saline, rich in clay and stone.

In the Winery

Grapes has been carried out in the end of September, selected in the vineyard and hand-picked into small crates. The destemming is delicate in order to obtain whole berries and a further manual selection takes place on sorting tables upon the arrival of the grapes at the winery. Fermentation is spontaneous, without selected yeasts, in temperature-controlled conical oak tanks and is followed by 30 days of maceration on the skins accompanied by short and frequent pumping over of the must. The wine, at the beginning of December 2018, began a 22 month ageing period in 225-228 liter (60 gallon) French oak barrels, 80% new and 20% used once previously. No fining and no filtration prior to bottling.

This vintage is profound and beautiful. The 2016 Cabernet Franc Duemani shows deep layers of fruit, with levels of crunchiness and complexity that make it memorable. The mouthfeel is silky, long and rich. The maturity of the fruit here is perfect. In terms of appearance, the wine is dark and impenetrable. All around, this Duemani is an extremely tight, focused and elegant expression of Cabernet Franc.
