Ripasso refers to a winemaking technique used for red wine production in Valpolicella. A Valpolicella Ripasso DOC is a medium-bodied wine with good alcohol content. It is obtained by the refermentation of the basic Valpolicella on the pomace of the “Amarone della Valpolicella” and/or “Recioto della Valpolicella” wines (“Ripasso” means “re-pass”). Thanks to this process, the wine is characterized by higher alcohol content, higher values of the phenolic substances and extracts than a basic Valpolicella.

Nebbiolo from Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

Luigi Pira Barolo ‘Margheria’ 2020

All south-facing and sitting at 340 metres, vinification is the same as the Barolo ‘Serralunga’. Intense and complex nose with notes of fruit and flowers and hints of leather and fresh hay, while on the palate it’s perfectly knit and very distinctive, red fruited in style with ironstone, choc-cherry, roses and some of the darker notes of cola and porcini, along with textural red plum-skin, grippy, black-tea tannins that underpin, but it’s still generous and very approachable now.

Shiraz/Syrah from Frankland River, West Australia

Swinney Syrah 2021

Beautifully refined with vibrant fresh fruit. Excellent élévage and exceptional mouthfeel. Plush and delicately spiced with a satisfying generosity and balanced twist of whole bunch."The 2021 Syrah is a haunting, glowing crimson in the glass. I love the tannins here—they're so good that they compel me to look beyond the fruit and to the structure, which is a rare occurrence. There are notes of pink peppercorns and Sichuan peppercorn, and the fruit has purity, clarity and a supple flo

Nebbiolo from Castiglione Falletto, Barolo

Margherita Otto ‘M8’ Barolo MAGNUM 2017

This one's another argument for blending sites! From a disciple of Maria Theresa Mascarello. The 2017 M8 is a blend of Castiglione Falletto, Monforte & Serralunga fruit! I rarely buy wine site unseen. I did so with the 2016 M8. I couldn’t resist! The story and experience behind Allan Manley’s launch of his own venture has seen him work with a veritable who’s who of Barolo ending with Maria Theresa Mascarello where he still works. As you might expect he’s a proponent of blended Barolo vs

Produttori del Barbaresco Riserva ‘Rabajà’ MAGNUM 2019

The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà  is redolent of dark fruit, crushed rocks, graphite, sage, menthol and lavender all race across the palate, supported by bracing, young Rabajà tannins that make themselves felt. This mid-weight, powerhouse Barbaresco packs quite a punch.Antonio Galloni, Vinous 94 Points KO 97*NOTE Galloni tasted in Sept 2023 noting his intent to look at the PdB Riservas in 12 months expecting they will resolve and shift up.
