Sur Pointe describes when champagne bottles are stored upside down, on their necks. Bottles are held this way after riddling, while waiting to be disgorged, and are usually put into crates or cages to hold them in place.

This method may also be used for the long-term storage of undisgorged bottles that still contain sediment, to concentrate the sediment in the neck so that the lees have a minimal continuing effect on the wine. Some say that wine keeps better when left undisgorged and stored this way, staying fresher for a longer period of time. Others prefer to disgorge wines normally before long-term storage.

The alternative to storage ‘sur pointe’ is ‘sur latte’.

In order to drink a bottle that is stored ‘sur pointe, it must first be manually disgorged, in a process called disgorgement à la volée.

Nerello Mascalese from Etna, Sicily

Passopisciaro Contrada ‘P’ Porcaria Nerello Mascelese 2019

Lower elevation builds more generosity into Porcaria. Such wonderful texture! Made from Nerello Mascelese, some call it the Barolo of the South, others a cross between Pinot & Nebbiolo. I prefer to say it is itself & delicious. The vineyards of Etna have undergone a major renaissance in the last couple of decades. Passipisciaro has been one of the wineries at the forefront. I was blown away the first time I tasted this wine.“Aromas of Mediterranean scrub, eucalyptus, smoky flint an

Pinot Noir from Vosne-Romanée, Côte-de-Nuits

Domaine de Montille Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru ‘Aux Malconsorts-Christiane’ 2019

"This is also quite firmly reduced and revealing nothing at present. On the palate though the slightly bigger flavors possess only a bit more volume but notably more power and particularly so on the even longer though not necessarily more complex finale. This is very classy juice with that sense of poise that all great wines seem to have. Very promising. Drink: 2036+ Don't miss! Outstanding ♥"Allen Meadows, Burghound

Nebbiolo from Treiso, Barbaresco

Figli Luigi Oddero Barbaresco 6-Pack 2021

Elegant, fine, grape first and just delicious. Settling and opening in the glass. Sitting in a sweet spot. Beautifully refined texture. Long, even and slatey in a good way. Serious wine at the price point. Licks of spice, background orange citrus hum. Bright red fruits. Vibrant acidity, salty and a little bloody, with a gently tarry, alpine note. Excellent shape, flow and persistence. Harmony. Give this a few years, and you’ll go to a happy place.Great to see a Barbaresco Classico from the
