Garigue or phrygana is a type of low, soft-leaved scrubland ecoregion and plant community in the Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub biome. It is found on limestone soils in southern France and around the Mediterranean Basin, generally near the seacoast where the moderated Mediterranean climate provides annual summer drought.[1][2][3] The term has also found its way into haute cuisine, suggestive of the resinous flavours of a garigue shrubland. Perfumed, delicate, transparent, thirst quenching, mid to light weight. Delicious easy to devour. Nice flavour profile with a bit more earthiness coming through. Well developed and balanced. Excellent value.

Crushed flowers, bright red-toned fruit, tobacco, cinnamon and dried flowers all take shape in a decidedly delicate, understated wine from Rampolla. A model of elegance and finesse, the 2021 is showing beautifully today. There is perhaps just a touch of VA in the bouquet, but it is not especially evident. The blend is 80% Sangiovese, 16% Merlot and a dollop of Cabernet Sauvig
