Wide-spread frosts wiped out crops in many villages & vineyards leaving others untouched. Working through the wines Leroux certainly seems more comfortable in the Côtes de Beaune. His whites show more harmony and refinement than his reds.

Finally I got to taste Paolo Scavino’s Cru Baroli, the results: sophisticated, harmonious, beautifully textured wines of individuality and with a great core of fruit.
My daughters were born in 2012 & 2015 … both excellent wine years! Naturally the collection of birth year wines has been growing. Finally 2012 ‘Il Poggio’ has hit the decks & a stash is now firmly locked away in my cellar!

When it comes to Brunello producers, these two along with Biondi-Santi, Banfi, Soldera & a select few others consistently take it to the next level! As much as I detest scores when you see 100 points for a wine it’s worth a moment of pause before you move on.

Reading Roagna’s manifesto with my Vigneron’s cap on, it’s clear that they are driven to achieve excellence

If I were to name the best Burgundy I’d drunk, Clos de la Roche from Domaine Ponsot would be near the top of the list.

If you enjoyed Roberto’s entry-level wines, these wines take things to the next level! Seductive Barolo, with a Riserva in the mix!

I’ve been devouring Nerello Mascelese wines as fast as I can over the last few years!
Passopisciaro is always up at the top of the list!

I drank a bottle of the 1995, the first release, next to a 1993 Rousseau Chambertin-Clos de Bèze in Beaune. The wine just released was rich, powerful, and, had all the hallmarks of greatness. It was hard to say which had the greatest depth and length of fruit at the time!

If you had a wishlist of wine legends to teach you about the red grape varieties of Piedmont: Dolcetto, Barbera, and, Nebbiolo, Roberto Voerzio would be right up there!

It’s rare that I smell a wine, stop, close my eyes, smell it again and the world mutes itself. Such is the incredible presence of Soldera’s wines!

Poderi Aldo Conterno is one of the few Great Estates of Barolo. “Like tasting young Romanée-Conti” James Suckling referring to the perfectly scored 2005 Granbussia!
