Here a more reticent and cooler nose is both gamier and spicier. The super-sleek medium-bodied flavors possess a gorgeous mouthfeel together with solid power on the more refined and ever-so-slightly longer and notably firmer finish. This is impeccably well-balanced but in contrast to the Bressandes, extended patience will absolutely be necessary, indeed I would suggest not touching a bottle before 10 years of age. 2037+Allen Meadows, Burghound (92-95) Points
Sauvignon Blanc from Pouilly-Fumé, Centre Loire
“The 2022 Pur Sang is done in a really sophisticated style. Despite its long élevage, it needs a little more time for its oak (demi-muids and cigar-shaped barrels) to integrate fully and for its sense of strictness to mellow. But this isn't a wine you'd crack open on release anyway. It is pure and clear, with fine texture and a tenderness to its core. The 2020 Barolo Rupestris is elegant, sculpted wine. It shows the mid-weight structure of the year nicely. Sweet red cherry fruit, mint, chalk, white pepper, orange peel and dried flowers open with some coaxing. I would leave this alone in the cellar for a few years, as time in bottle is essential here. A more discreet if still easily perceptible dollop of wood can be found on the more deeply pitched aromas of poached plum, forest floor and a more subtle hint of the sauvage. The supersleek, intense and beautifully textured medium weight flavors exude evident minerality on the powerful, youthfully austere and beautifully balanced finale that displays excellent length. It has all the energy that makes this site so distinctive, but with an extra kick of fruit density and a whole range of exotic aromatics that make for a truly drop dead gorgeous wine. Because MAGNUMS ARE BETTER! The 2017 Barolo Brunate is a powerful, brooding wine. Huge dark fruit, leather, spice, menthol and dried herbs all build in a potent Barolo that is enshrouded by tannins.
