“The 2022 Pur Sang is done in a really sophisticated style. Despite its long élevage, it needs a little more time for its oak (demi-muids and cigar-shaped barrels) to integrate fully and for its sense of strictness to mellow. But this isn't a wine you'd crack open on release anyway. It is pure and clear, with fine texture and a tenderness to its core. Nebbiolo from Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo
Well colour me Nebbiolo! This is one of THOSE wines! Complete, poised, flowing, filled with personality, an acid-tannin complex that gives vitality & is perfectly weighted against layered fruit of considerable length. The tannins are ripe, nutty & present with a proper level of Barolo grip. It draws you in whispering "DRINK ME!". A pleasure to devour in its youth. Because MAGNUMS ARE BETTER! The 2017 Barolo Ravera is a powerhouse. My impression is that the 2017 is going to develop into something truly special. It has all the energy that makes this site so distinctive, but with an extra kick of fruit density and a whole range of exotic aromatics that make for a truly drop dead gorgeous wine. Because MAGNUMS ARE BETTER! The 2017 Barolo Brunate is a powerful, brooding wine. Huge dark fruit, leather, spice, menthol and dried herbs all build in a potent Barolo that is enshrouded by tannins. The 2017 is going to need quite a bit of time in the cellar. Today, it is very much a brooding powerhouse. Nebbiolo from Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo
The 2020 Barolo Rupestris is elegant, sculpted wine. It shows the mid-weight structure of the year nicely. Sweet red cherry fruit, mint, chalk, white pepper, orange peel and dried flowers open with some coaxing. I would leave this alone in the cellar for a few years, as time in bottle is essential here.
