Aphelion Brini Single Vineyard Grenache 2021

Grenache | South Australia, Australia

Eucalypt / menthol with a little musk on quite classic Grenache flavours with a little bubble gum, rhubarb, candied citrus peel, baking spice. Perhaps feeling the most complete at the moment. It will be interesting to see how all 3 develop over time. With excellent length and palate weight.

Aphelion Wait Single Vineyard Grenache 2021

Grenache | South Australia, Australia

A riper fruit profile. Whilst richer it retains freshness. A little more grip building here. A graphite, mineral feel. Just the slightest touch of raisining in a good way. Violets on red fruit, a little more darkness and baking spice here with blood orange citrus. As it settles in the glass all things fall into place and it builds a charming elegance.

Aphelion Trenery Single Vineyard Grenache 2021

Grenache | South Australia, Australia

Fascinating set of three wines. The Trenerry is the most perfumed roses, a little menthol, on red fruits, rhubarb and a little orange citrus. Fine, delicate and Pinotesque. Herbal stalk spice with a little grip from stalk tannin. Playful and fun. Fruit builds depth and length in the glass. A freshness, lively acidity and perfume. It will be fascinating to see how this resolves and builds in the bottle over the coming years.
Fascinating tasting this with Burghound’s note and next to a 2020 Guillard ‘Reniard’ from Gevrey-Chambertin. The villages of Savigny-lès-Beaune and Chorey-lès-Beaune tend to show the sunshine a little more compared to those both further south and north. Dark and clearly ripe, Pavelot has maintained energy and vitality. The tannins build to a crescendo along the palate balancing the richness with a fine acid. The shape and flow are generous, yet linear with that quality tannin and persist

Domaine Louis Boillot Bougogne 2017

Pinot Noir | Burgundy, France

There is a level of sophistication that you typically only see at the next level up, the village wines! "A super-fresh mix of red and dark berry fruit aromas is liberally laced with earth wisps that can also be found on the vibrant and delicious flavors that possess very good depth and persistence and only a trace of rusticity. This should be accessible young but be able to reward a few years of cellaring as well." Allen Meadows The fruit for the Bourgogne comes largely from Gevrey-Chamber

Praeter Langhe Nebbiolo 2020

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Barolo Cru Druca Fruit from the Vineyards of Luigi Oddero! Historically from the La Morra Specola Cru from 2020 the fruit is sourced from the Druca Cru in Barolo. Declassified Barolo! Not for quality, but, for the shorter ageing timeframe. BOOM! The rest of the fruit from this Cru goes into the Langhe Nebbiolo. Specola is now bottled as a Cru Barolo with some of the fruit going into the Classico. The shift in Cru was based on a desire to find fruit with softer tannin to handle 100% wholebunc

Giuseppe Rinaldi Rosae 2020

Ruché | Piedmont, Barolo

About Guiseppe Rinaldi Rinaldi is one of the cult producers of Barolo. There’s been plenty written about him which I won’t regurgitate here other than to say, he clearly had a single-minded focus on quality. Beppe, sat in the more traditional camp of producers, and, like Bartolo Mascarello and Maria-Teresa, Beppe Rinaldi was an advocate […]
The 2019 Bourgogne Rouge offers up aromas of sweet red berries and plums mingled with peonies and spices. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and textural, it's deep and complete, with lively acids and a penetrating finish. Bouley now gives his regional bottlings the same extended élevage as his grander appellations, and the result are compelling. William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

Giuseppe Rinaldi Rosae 2021

Ruché | Piedmont, Barolo

Well here's a fascinating drink! I've not had a Ruchè AKA Ruchet AKA Rouchet AKA Moscatellina before. I wonder how Rinaldi ended up with this in the mix and the history of the vineyard. The synonym Moscatellina is perhaps the one that first drew my gaze when smelling this. It does have some Muscat like aromas, I almost felt like I was smelling a pretty decent bitters. Galloni is on the mark with his discription. Before trying it myself I though perhaps he was having a Rinaldi Fan Boy moment.

Olek Bondonio Barbera 2021

Barbera | Piedmont, Barbaresco

This is how you do Barbera! My note is a replica of the last: Dark, brooding. Lovely élévage, well-developed pre-bottling. Yes, it’s still young, of course. Where so many Barbara’s are raw at this point there is a sense of togetherness. It’s a pure expression of the grape without interference from oak. It looks to have spent reasonable time on skins, the extraction and flavour development adding the earthy, skin contact/maceration character, and quality tannin wrapping quality frui

Francesco Versio Langhe Nebbiolo 2021

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barbaresco

The 'Side Project' of ex-Bruno Giacosa's winemaker Francesco Versio! Baby Barbaresco anyone? Simply delicious. Shows exceptional touch. Fresh, energetic with a delicacy matched to an intoxicating perfume underpinned by vibrant red fruits, complexing earthing, licorice, sour cherry and a little woody herb. Perfectly balanced this is stunning and ridiculous for the coin. The Francesco Versio 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo shows terrific balance (and great value) with plenty of wild berry fruit and fr

Olek Bondonio Rosso Guillietta Pelaverga 2021

Pelaverga Piccolo | Barbaresco, Italy

Very pale colour. Olek's hallmark harmony & development, complexity & balance. Together & composed. Stylistically you could argue that it's a light red or bold Rosé. Either way it's delicious. A core of vibrant strawberry fruit & musk with a slatey pop & earthy layer. Charming, energetic with loads of zippy, crunchy acid and fine tannin combining into a pleasantly chalky mouthfeel. Thirst quenching with a very complete feel to it. I shall be seeking more Pelaverga Picc
