"The 2019er Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese * was made from fruit harvested at 100° Oechsle and fermented down to sweet levels of residual sugar (81 g/l). It exhibits some smoky, minty, and ripe scents of pear, quince, almond cream, lavender, pineapple, and smoke on the nose. The wine reveals a more exotic and animating side on the delicate and subtly smooth palate, and leaves one with a feeling of presence and intensity, but all focused and chiseled in the long finish. 2026-2039."Jea

Showing beautiful natural acidity, a finer line of tannin, with wonderful development, it is one that could still do with a few more years for the acid to find the equilibrium point and for it to uncoil. Although I suspect a fatty piece of protein would have a symbiotic relationship with this. Made primarily from Goldtröpchen fruit, with some grapes sourced from two more elevated vineyards, delicate playful fun dry Rizza, juicy with zippy acid. Hints of musk earthiness and a couple of savoury pops. This is very clever stuff. Nicely developed for an entry level wine it’s excellent. When you drink concentrate on the mouthfeel, the shape of the wine as it flows across your palate and clean finish.

The build in intensity of this very complete wine is clear. Yes the acid is there, it has the depth and length to hold it. Brooding with Sour Cherry and Dark Fruit. Kinda the child to Block 1 and Block 2 It's got some edgy tannin and extraction on one hand from the Pommard clone of Pinot. On the other it's got concentration and oppulence from the MV6 clone. Really want to see this wine in another 12-24 months.

Tasting through Burklin-Wolf's range, it always strikes me just how well they've done in classifying their vineyards and pricing them accordingly. "The 2017 Riesling Gutswein was harvested late with some botrytis and stopped at 12g/L of residual sweetness. Juicy apricot and peach beckon on the nose, promising fruity generosity that the palate promptly delivers - smooth and off-dry. Herbal lift adds dimension, while concentration and ripeness fill the mouth.
