Sur Pointe describes when champagne bottles are stored upside down, on their necks. Bottles are held this way after riddling, while waiting to be disgorged, and are usually put into crates or cages to hold them in place.

This method may also be used for the long-term storage of undisgorged bottles that still contain sediment, to concentrate the sediment in the neck so that the lees have a minimal continuing effect on the wine. Some say that wine keeps better when left undisgorged and stored this way, staying fresher for a longer period of time. Others prefer to disgorge wines normally before long-term storage.

The alternative to storage ‘sur pointe’ is ‘sur latte’.

In order to drink a bottle that is stored ‘sur pointe, it must first be manually disgorged, in a process called disgorgement à la volée.

Feeling Thirsty?

Excellent drinking. Drink this while you wait for the Grenouille to build. Line, length, texture, with a sufficient generosity giving it approachability in youth without adding any of the clumsy bits. Classic, delicious, delicate. Wonderful élévage making for a complete wine.0.20 ha of 80 year-old vines, the same age as Beugnons. Only replaced with massale selections.A pure and elegant nose features notes of citrus zest, mineral reduction, iodine and hints of algae. There is again

Year after year Bouland has turned stunning, beautiful wines! This is the only Cuvée of the 4 we offer from the 2023 vintage I haven't had a chance to taste. Word from those I trust is that it is looking sharp! In 2023 the Morgon wines from the 'Cailloux' / pebble soils appear to have the edge in balance and energy over the sandier 'Sable' sable soils. One of the wineries I buy from each year without hesitation.

This is more like it! A big step up from the 2023. Fine salty acid. A little savoury. Spice, and a lick of Crème Pat. Beautifully weighted and flowing. A generosity counterpointed by a zippy, fine line of energising acid interplaying with the subtle textural phenolics. A little mandarin and cumquat playing around the edge. Delicious drinking!Paul Kaan, Wine Decoded Feb 2026

Domaine Anne Gros Hautes Côtes de Nuits Rouge 2022

Pinot Noir | Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, Burgundy

The 2022 Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Rouge comes from the same parcel as the white, though this is slightly less than a hectare. With cranberry and wild strawberry fruit on the feisty nose, it gradually calms down and attains commendable delineation. The medium-bodied palate has a slight piquancy on the entry, a crisp line of acidity and pastille-like red fruit on the finish. Drink over the next 3 or 4 years.Neal Martin, Vinous 85-87 Points
