Feinherb

While there is no strict definition, nor is it legally defined within German wine law, many growers use Feinherb to indicate quality wines that are off-dry. Today it is commonly used in place of the less popular designation ‘halbtrocken’.

Feinherb is a traditional German term that indicates quality. It has been permitted on German wine labels since 2000 but is actually part of an older set of terms used to describe the sweetness and quality of German Rieslings. While there is no strict definition, nor is it legally defined within German wine law, many growers use it for quality wines that are off-dry. Feinherb is often used in place of the less popular traditional designation ‘halbtrocken’, as well as for wines that are slightly sweeter than regulations dictate for halbtrocken wines.

Feeling Thirsty?

Domaine Faiveley Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru 2022

Chardonnay | Puligny-Montrachet, Burgundy

Soft wood sets off the cool, pretty and elegant aromas of honeysuckle, white orchard fruit and abundant spice and floral nuances, especially acacia. The dense and caressing medium-bodied flavors possess a highly seductive mid-palate mouthfeel that contrasts mildly with the firm, youthfully austere and impressively long finale where the wood treatment progressively resurfaces. This needs to develop more depth but that is all but assured if given a chance.92-94 Points, Allen Meadows – Burgho
Daniel Bouland Morgon Bellevue Cailloux MAGNUM 2023
Ridiculous Yields!
Of the two Bellevue Cuvées, the Cailloux has better balance and energy with a touch less alcohol and a touch more acid. Excellent darker, earthier profile than the Chiroubles. Beautifully weighted, plump fruit with a spice layer and just a little playful stalk tannin grip keeping the palate lively and, with that fine line of acid, refreshing. Any excellent rendition and like the other 2023's more immediate approachability than previous vintages. I typically find Bouland's wines need at least 18

Vajra Barolo ‘Bricco delle Viole’ 2020

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

The 2020 Barolo Bricco delle Viole, Vajra's flagship, is very fine. Dark cherry, kirsch, blood orange, spice and lavender are nicely amplified. The 2020 is gracious and elegant, but its youthful Nebbiolo tannins will require some time to soften. The 2020 is another wine that captures my keen interests with its sublime balance. I would be thrilled to own it.Antonio Galloni, Vinous 96 Points ML 95
