Head to the Rhône Valley, where you’ll, Viognier, Roussane and Marsanne with their amazing textures and spice. Cross the border to Italy and it’s Arneis, Verdicchio, Greco, Carricante, and, Garganega offering up often flavours very different to those of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Revel in the diversity of white wine styles created, as winemakers seek to balance sugar, acid, alcohol, phenolics, the use of oak, lees, and, skin contact to create wines of harmony and personality.

Perhaps in Riesling more than any other white wine will you find nearly every style imaginable.

Valentini Trebbiano d’Abruzzo 2021

Trebbiano | Italy, Abruzzo

By all accounts the 2021 is once again a demonstration of why Ian d'Agata decrees the Valentini's Trebbiano hails from another planet. This is only the 10th release of Trebbiano in the 21st century, such is Valentini's dedication to quality!NOTE on the 2020: More savory than sweet, the 2020 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo slowly opens with a rich blend of raw almonds and smoky crushed stone, giving way to dried nectarines and hints of sage. This seductress is ripe and succulent upon entry, yet with

Vigneti Massa Timorasso ‘Derthona’ 2023

Timorasso | Italy, Colli Tortonesi

From near extinction the Massa family have saved Timorasso, for that I am truly thankful! Massa's Derthona is the perfect introduction to the serious end of the spectrum of Timorasso. The note is a dead ringer for the 2021 although there is perhaps an edge more energy, depth and length in the 2022.Excellent build in depth and length with excellent oxidative line that sits perfectly with fine acid and insane lemon oil and those mega lemons you could eat straight + apricot kernel.. Note: from a .67 ha parcel of Chardonnay. A moderately phenolic nose (olive oil nuances) is comprised by notes of citrus confit and whiffs of the exotic in the form of white peach, lychee and passion fruit. There is outstanding volume and richness to the succulent but decidedly powerful larger-bodied flavors that brim with minerality on the lemon-tinged finale that is firm and very dry but not especially austere.Allen Meadows, Burghound 91-93 PointsThe 2023 Musigny Blanc Grand Cru ex

Ripe aromas are composed by notes of apple, citrus and a whiff of fennel. Domaine William Fèvre Chablis 2023

Chardonnay | France, Burgundy

Sourced from a mosaic of exposures and elevations and incorporating old vines planted between 1969 and 1972, the 2023 Chablis Village offers aromas of pear, white flowers and freshly baked bread. Medium- to full-bodied, ample and charming, it is underpinned by ripe yet racy acidity and concludes with a long, saline finish. Harvested earlier to preserve freshness, this is a well-executed village-level Chablis. Drink: 2026 – 2038Kristaps Karklins, The Wine Advocate 90 Points

There is a vague suggestion of the exotic on the aromas of white peach, dried apricot, acacia and solid Chablis typicity. The mouthfeel of the medium weight flavors is also round, sappy and succulent with more evident minerality suffusing the lingering and refreshingly dry finale. This should drink well young and with 5 to 8 years of keeping. Drink 2029+Allen Meadows, Burghound 89-92Points

Laurent Tribut Chablis MAGNUM 2023

Chardonnay | France, Burgundy

Ripe aromas of poached pear and apple compote are laced with hints of iodine, lemon rind and a whiff of brine. The succulent, round and sappy middle weight flavors display notably better than average persistence on the citrusy, clean and nicely dry finale. This punches above its weight and is worth a look. Drink 2028+ ♥ Outstanding Top ValueAllen Meadows, Burghound 89-91 Points

Delicious again their seems to be a lift in the flow shape and texture, elegance and refinement here for Weil. Stunning wine. Richness and delicacy. Chalky acid phenolic complex. Fine elegant delicious. Fine acid. Perfumed white flowers. Power of fruit with weightlessness. Soft acid. The most exceptional lime cordial fruit.  More delicacy and white flowers. Each of these wines would stand beautifully on its own. “The 2021 Kiedrich Turmberg Riesling Trocken is pure and coolish on the

A delicious Jalouise. Quince and Fejoa with a little baking spice. Building in depth with decent length in the glass. Textural phenolics play nicely with chalky acid complexed by hazelnut and crème pat from lees. Vivacious and refreshing. It’ll be lovely to see this fill out with a little more bottle age. Lemon oil and zest at play. Let it warm a little. The perfect intro to the fresher styles of Savennières. It will offer load more with time in bottle!

150-200 Year Old Vines!
The Finca Genoveva is showing more complexity on the nose at this early stage in its life compared with the ‘A Telleira’, I suspect it won’t be long before they sit on par.Providing the definition of high-quality super fine acid. Like the ‘A Telleira’ the mouthfeel gently laces your tongue with a sheer delicacy. Fascinating Pecorini. A little skin contact yields a lick of burnt match that sits nicely as a complexing line over complex fruits with citrus oils. Nicely developed its an example of a textural Pecorino. That will please those after a less funky pecorino than Pepe’s and a much more textural complete it cuts a fine balance between the full blown styles and the fresh precise ones. A lot to love here. "The 2019er Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Auslese was made from partially botrytized fruit (1/3) picked at 115° Oechsle, and was fermented down to noble-sweet levels of residual sugar (125 g/l).
