Terroir al Límit L’Arbossar 2019

Cariñena | Spain, Catalunya

Huber's cooler fresher version of his 1er Cru equivalent Cariñena or Carignan has a ridiculous perfume & teases your senses! Arbossar is a steep, 1.6-hectare site vineyard of 100-plus-year-old Cariñena (Carignan) with schist and granite soils. It’s close to the village of Torroja where the Terroir al Límit cellars are based. Against conventional wisdom, Arbossar was planted on the cooler, north-facing slopes of Torroja. It was this unusual site, purchased in 2005, that informed much of H

Terroir al Límit Dits del Terra 2018

Cariñena | Spain, Catalunya

Huber's warmer, bolder version of his 1er Cru equivalent Cariñena or Carignan perfumed, spicey & savoury! The Dits del Terra can be thought of as Arbossar’s south-facing sibling. It is also 100% Cariñena, from three schist-rich sites where the vines are more than 80 years old. Dits del Terra was one of the first vineyards that Huber and his then partner, Eben Sadie, acquired when they started making wine together in the Priorat. Wendouree Malbec 2017

Malbec | South Australia, Australia

AP Birks Wendouree Cellars produce some of the very few wines I’ll buy without tasting! The wines are something special. A celebration of an incredible old vineyard with plantings from the late 1800s. Tony & Lita are custodians of something truly special!Central vineyard planted in 1898.The Malbec is the best I've ever had from Australia. Malbec is a fickle variety that is a case of feast or famine. When flowering is poor so little fruit is realised that you can barely make a wine
The 2021 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio is classy and polished to the core. This wine has come such a long way since its debut. Enrico Scavino really believed in this site when he purchased it a little more than 20 years ago. The 2021 is a fine testament to his vision. Lavender, sage, menthol and licorice lead into a core of dark-toned fruit in a Barolo that is deep yet also light on its feet. This is impeccably done, not to mention very tasty. Vietti Barbaresco ‘Masseria’ 2017

Nebbiolo | Barbaresco, Italy

We've seen a lot more 2017 Barbaresco than Barolo, given they can be released 12 months earlier. I've been loving what I've seen thus far. They've been dynamic and full of energy. From Vietti: Ruby-red colour, with light garnet hues. Rich, powerful concentrated nose with hints of ripe fruit. Fresh and bodied on the palate. Notes of red and black fruits (strawberry, blueberry and blackberry). Well-integrated ripe soft and silky tannins. Particular almond note on the finish. It shows an overal

2020 Barolos have been showing very tightly coiled in their youth across the vintage. There have been notable exceptions. Canonica's Paiagallo and Magheritta Otto's Barolo both have a core of fruit that is shining, expressive and inviting.Canonica's 2020 Paiagallo will still need a few years to reveal its considerable potential. I suspect we will look back on 2020 as an underrated vintage in time. Although 15% on the label, there is no imbalance or over-ripeness here. Fully flavoured, savour

Wines like these are so rare that it is impossible to try them before they land in the country and they invariably sell out before you get to!
