Barrel Selection "AP: 15 21. The 2020er Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese ** - 24 - was made from 40% botrytized fruit picked at 115° Oechsle and was fermented down to noble-sweet levels of residual sugar (120 g/l). It offers a still rather backward nose made of smoky elements and only faint scents of melon, pineapple, apricot, and herbs. The wine is hugely racy and beautifully focused on the palate and leaves a mouthwatering feel of herbs, faint flavors of subtly exotic fruits, and spices in

Rainoldi Nebbiolo Brut Rosé 2018

Rosé | Valtellina, Inferno

First released in 1980! Cracking 'Metodo Classico' fizz from Valtellina! I've had some solid sparkling Nebbiolo from Piedmont before. None quite like this! When this was poured for me I had no expectations and ended up having a WOW! moment. Made from Chiavennasca 92% A.K.A Nebbiolo, Pignola 4%, Rossola 4%. Excellent texture and mousse, light salmon colour with a red fruit down the raspberry line, superb acid, balancing alow dose. Very sophisticated. A play of light woody herbs, rose, fa

My two favourite Neb's from Sandrone came at the polar opposites of the price spectrum. The Valmaggiore at under under a $100 is around 1/10th the price of the 2015 Vite Talin, Sandrone's latest release super cuvée. Sandrone’s Valmaggiore is a different expression of Nebbiolo to those from the nearby Barolo and Barbaresco. Lovely perfume and density. Florals with dusty mid-palate tannins. Mineral, graphite feel to it. A nice spice. Loads of finesse and elegance. Closer to Barbaresco than Baro

Broad, rich front palate. Juvenille, requiring a lot of coaxing to get it to come out to play. White stone fruit here. Increase in phenolic grip works well here. A little roller coaster of joy. With a silver line at the back palate. Playful, needs 5 years at least. "The 2020er Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese still proves flinty, quite smoky, and reductive at first before it almost reluctantly reveals its super nose made of stone fruits, vineyard peach, Conference pear, anise, and h

Terroir al Límit Terra de Cuques 2021

White Blend | Priorat, Spain

Huber's Village white is incredibly intriguing. It's rare to see so much packed into a wine & for it to have such poise at the same time! Terra De Cuques - which translates as 'place of the fireflies' - takes its name from the fireflies that light up the landscape in this area at night. Fireflies are extremely sensitive to chemical contamination, like ladybirds, and their presence indicates a healthy vineyard environment. Terra de Cuques is a blend of 90% Pedro Ximénez from the clay soils fr

Domaine SC Guillard Gevrey-Chambertin 2019

Pinot Noir | Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy

Deep crimson, quite deep color. The nose is layered with berry fruit, raspberry, wild strawberry, cassis and briary fruit. There is lovely perfume lift and a purity of fruit. It is super fresh and focused. The palate is beautifully balanced and finely structured with spice, red berry loads of silky tannins and a long driven finish. Lovely balance and length.  Drink 2025-2035. Tom Carson

Yabby Lake Block 6 Pinot Noir 2015

Pinot Noir | Victoria, Australia

Brooding with Sour Cherry and Dark Fruit. Kinda the child to Block 1 and Block 2 It's got some edgy tannin and extraction on one hand from the Pommard clone of Pinot. On the other it's got concentration and oppulence from the MV6 clone. Really want to see this wine in another 12-24 months.

"The 2019er Riesling vom blauen Schiefer, as it is referred to on the main part of the label, comes from early pickings in the blue-slate sector (Fahrlay) of the Pündericher Marienburg. It offers a gorgeously floral and subtle bouquet quickly joined by mirabelle, vineyard peach, herbs, passion fruit, and smoke. The wine is gorgeously animating on the precise and zest-infused palate and leaves a feel of orchard fruits and herbal elements in the beautifully tart finish. The after-taste is all abo

“From the oldest, up to 50-year-old vines of the estate and cultivated on partly reddish phyllite soils in altitudes up to 300 meters, the 2020 Kiedrich Klosterberg Riesling Trocken was aged on the full lees until late July for the first time (instead of April, like in the former vintages). This brings a remarkable, delicate, subtle and articulated, very elegant and flinty, almost Mosel-like Riesling bouquet of bright fruit aromas (mango, passion fruit) intertwined with notes of crushed iron a
