Lovely harmony and heart-shaped fruit on a long finish. Excellent Rosé. Like those Mordorée Rosé it is proper wine with real flavour!

Description

Moreish strawberries with a little hint of rose. A wonderful core of juicy fruit complimented by a line of fine refreshing acid. Young Rosé can be unwieldy, like a prepubescent boy. Not in this case. Very much together and bags of fun. Lovely harmony and heart-shaped fruit on a long finish. Excellent Rosé. Like those Mordorée Rosé it is proper wine with real flavour!

Pelaverga is the main variety here. Not one you see much of coming out of Piedmont. It’s slowly making a comeback. Used like this it shines! Although a blend you can’t pick any of the varieties from the pack. Seamless.

60% Pelaverga, 35% Nebbiolo, 5% Barbera

Why is this Wine so Yummy?

About Burlotto

During his seventy-seven years as a winemaker (1850-1927) achieving superstardom in a world dominated by French wines. Today, Burlotto has re-emerged as one of Piemonte’s great small producers, thanks to the brilliant and highly traditional winemaking of G.B.’s great-great-grandson, Fabio Alessandria.

He pioneered selling Barolo in bottle (not cask or demijohn), predating even Giacomo Conterno’s Barolo Monfortino. And as official supplier to the Royal House of Savoy—which once ruled Piemonte—he not only achieved personal fame, he made his village of Verduno as renowned as Serralunga or La Morra.

Fabio Alessandria’s session with Galloni is a great listen. Fascinating to hear the familial relationship between GD Burlotto, Fratelli Alessandria, and Castello di Verduno perhaps the top 3 producers based in Verduno.

The nose shows ripe honeydew and crushed yellow apple with sweet herbs and smoky minerals. On the palate, the 2019 Burlotto Elatis Rosato coasts with ease. It is cool-toned and riding a core of vibrant acids, minerals, and citrus-tinged fruits. The finish is long, buzzing with energy, and just begging for another sip. This is a unique and wonderfully stimulating blend of 60% Pelaverga, 35% Nebbiolo and 5% Barbera.
