In music Sforzato means strained. In wine it translates to forced. In this case it refers to a passito style wine made in a similar way to Amarone, using Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo) in the Valtellina region in Lomabardy.

The grapes are picked, laid out on dry racks and left to slowly degydrate, losing as much as 40% of their weight, concentrating the sugars, acids, and, beyond in the grapes. When ready the winemaking process continues, as, the grapes are fermented and turned into a rich full bodied wine.

Massolino “Parafada” Barolo 2021

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

Planted in 1957, Parafada was the Massolino family’s first prime parcel in Serralunga. It is still home to their oldest vines. Legend has it that Giovanni Massolino planted these vines when he was just 17 years old! Today these 69-year-old vines produce smaller berries with more concentrated fruit as a result. Located between Gabutti and Lazzarito, Massolino’s 1.2-hectare parcel rises steeply from 300 to 340 metres above sea level and faces due south, catching the full face of the sun. The a

The Axium is the smaller of the two and is designed for medium-bodied red wines and medium to full-bodied white wines. While some glassware manufacturers seem intent on steering decanter design into the realm of flamboyant objets d'art, Zalto craft only two, function-over-form designs. They both look and handle with style but more importantly; they are practical and just work brilliantly.
